Position Information Position Title: Property Security Officer Working Title: Property Security Officer Position Number: 002099 Full-time or Part-time: Full Time Time Limited Position: No Number of Vacancies: 1 Department: Residence Life Posting Number: 0402648 SHRA/EHRA: SHRA Hiring Range: $35,880.00 - $35,880.00 Overall Position Competency: Contributing Primary Purpose of the Organization The primary purpose of Police and Public Safety is to protect the life and property of the students, faculty, and staff on the campus of Fayetteville State University and to support the University’s core mission of academic excellence by providing comprehensive and professional public safety services and convenient access to a peaceful and orderly campus community. Primary Purpose of the Position This position will patrol designated residence halls, lobby areas, hallways, exterior entrances/exits, and other areas within or immediately around the residence halls. It will also monitor access by checking IDs for each person that enters the building and manage guest registration during assigned work hours. The role may require rotating shifts, weekends, and/or overtime work. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require a valid North Carolina driver’s license. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Technical Knowledge: Understands security, traffic, and parking enforcement practices; basic first aid; thorough knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations applicable to the property; proficiency with security, traffic, and parking enforcement equipment such as gates, radios, computers, and electronic ticketing devices; may perform routine maintenance on equipment. Communication Skills: Communicates information orally or in writing; listens and responds appropriately; explains policies with tact and courtesy; completes reports and writes citations; interacts with co‑workers, supervisors, emergency response personnel, university officials, and the public. Security, Patrol, and Enforcement: Patrols, guards, and secures property and grounds; monitors assigned areas for violations; issues parking citations; assists in emergency response; provides support for special events; controls traffic; erects barricades; and offers motorist assistance. Decision Making: Identifies problems quickly, makes sound decisions, and takes appropriate action based on available facts and constraints. Preferred Qualifications At least one year of prior security or security‑related experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
