Athletic Trainer School Based

Job Description This position is for an Athletic Trainer in a community, youth, or high school setting with a primary assignment to support the medical needs of the assigned partner. The trainer will provide medical coverage on the field and in the training room for injured athletes during practices and events, and may also assist other local high schools, community sporting events, and regional sporting camps or activities. The role has variable working hours and unpredictable schedules, including late nights. We are seeking a School‑Based Athletic Trainer who will partner with two local high schools to provide comprehensive injury prevention, evaluation, and care. The role offers the opportunity to build strong relationships with coaches, students, and school staff while promoting safe participation and overall wellness across both campuses. Essential Functions Carries out rehabilitation programs after athlete or patient evaluation and treatment plan establishment, collaborating closely with other medical team providers including PT and Physician. Assesses and administers first‑aid to injured athletes during practices and sporting events, making appropriate physician referral when needed. Oversees the operation of the Athletic Training room, ensuring appropriate supply levels, maximal coverage, and that the room and clinic maintain a clean, safe, and professional environment. Communicates effectively with coaches, school administration, parents, athletes, patients, physicians, therapists, and other sports medicine team members. Maintains accurate records of all evaluations, referrals, and treatments administered to patients or athletes. Provides education and training on injury prevention, advocates for health literacy, nutrition, and mental health wellbeing. Develops strong relationships with key stakeholders at the assigned school or clinic, including Physicians, Athletic Director, School Administration, Faculty, Coaching Staff, Boosters, and Parents. Ensures that proper return‑to‑play criteria are met before allowing participation of athlete or patient, prioritizing the best interest of the athlete or patient. Organizes and presents in‑services, lectures, coaching conferences, seasonal physicals, sports camps, training, and educational opportunities as appropriate. Credentialed as an Athletic Trainer through the Board of Certification (BOC). Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers. Two years’ experience working in a school or community setting as an Athletic Trainer (preferred). Physical Requirements Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interaction with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that requires verbal communication and hearing quickly and accurately, especially during emergencies. Manual dexterity to manipulate complex equipment, frequent computer use, typing for documentation, medication preparation, etc. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients, bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, including heavy items. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and distributing supplies and equipment, including pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment. May be expected to stand in a stationary position for extended periods. Location Intermountain Health McKay‑Dee Hospital, Ogden, Utah Hours & Compensation 40 hours per week.
