Maintenance Manager

An established and stable lead oxide manufacturer is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance and reliability operations at its Hammond, Indiana manufacturing facility. This position will oversee the maintenance team and drive the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of lead oxide production equipment, electrical and mechanical systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, material-handling equipment, process piping, dust collection systems, and Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled machinery. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on maintenance leader who can balance day-to-day plant support with long-term reliability improvements! The Maintenance Manager will partner with production, engineering, environmental health and safety, and plant leadership to reduce downtime, strengthen preventive maintenance practices, develop maintenance personnel, and support a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Salary range: $125,000-$145,000+, contingent on experience

Qualifications

• 7+ years of industrial maintenance, equipment repair, or facilities systems experience within a manufacturing, heavy industrial, chemical processing, metals, battery manufacturing, or military environment
• 7+ years of progressive maintenance leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
• Strong working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, process piping, utility, and industrial machinery systems
• Experience troubleshooting and supporting Allen-Bradley PLCs, industrial controls, motors, drives, instrumentation, and automated production equipment
• Demonstrated success building and managing preventive and predictive maintenance programs
• Experience using a computerized maintenance management system to manage work orders, maintenance history, spare parts, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment performance
• Knowledge of root cause analysis, reliability-centered maintenance, equipment failure analysis, and continuous improvement practices
• Experience managing maintenance budgets, outside contractors, capital projects, repair costs, and critical spare-parts inventories
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, confined-space procedures, hot-work controls, and safe maintenance practices
• Experience in a highly regulated manufacturing environment involving industrial hygiene, air-quality controls, dust collection, hazardous materials, or employee exposure controls strongly preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, coaching, organizational, and analytical skills
• Ability to prioritize competing production needs and respond effectively to urgent equipment or facility issues
• Ability to work collaboratively across maintenance, production, engineering, quality, environmental health and safety, and plant leadership teams
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, industrial maintenance, manufacturing technology, or a related technical discipline preferred
• Military maintenance and technical leadership experience will be considered

Responsibilities

• Lead the maintenance and reliability functions for production equipment, building systems, utilities, and facility infrastructure
• Supervise, coach, schedule, and develop maintenance technicians while establishing clear expectations for safety, quality, responsiveness, and workmanship
• Create and manage daily, weekly, and long-term maintenance schedules based on production priorities, equipment condition, preventive maintenance needs, and available resources
• Improve equipment availability, reliability, and useful life by strengthening preventive and predictive maintenance programs
• Direct troubleshooting and repair activities involving electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, instrumentation, controls, process piping, and PLC-controlled equipment
• Support the reliability of lead oxide manufacturing equipment and associated material-handling, ventilation, dust collection, emission-control, and facility systems
• Analyze recurring equipment failures and lead root cause corrective action efforts that produce sustainable improvements
• Track downtime, work-order completion, preventive maintenance compliance, mean time between failures, maintenance costs, backlog, and other key reliability indicators
• Manage the computerized maintenance management system and ensure equipment records, work orders, preventive maintenance procedures, parts usage, and maintenance history remain accurate
• Coordinate planned shutdowns, major repairs, equipment installations, commissioning activities, and capital improvement projects
• Partner with production leadership to schedule maintenance work while minimizing operational disruption and protecting customer commitments
• Partner with environmental health and safety leadership to maintain safe work practices and support compliance in a lead-processing manufacturing environment
• Reinforce lockout/tagout, machine guarding, electrical safety, hot-work, confined-space, respiratory protection, housekeeping, and contractor safety requirements
• Ensure maintenance work supports the effective operation of ventilation, air-handling, dust-collection, and employee exposure-control systems
• Manage department spending, repair-versus-replacement decisions, contractor expenses, overtime, spare-parts inventory, and maintenance budgets
• Identify critical spare parts and establish appropriate inventory levels to reduce the risk of extended equipment downtime
• Select, coordinate, and hold outside contractors and service providers accountable for safety, quality, schedule, and cost performance
• Evaluate team performance, identify training needs, provide technical coaching, and create development opportunities for maintenance personnel
• Support equipment modifications, process improvements, capacity expansions, and new equipment installations
• Develop standardized maintenance procedures, inspection routes, job plans, troubleshooting guides, and equipment documentation
• Maintain an organized, responsive, and safety-focused maintenance department that supports continuous production and long-term plant performance
