Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance operations of our high-volume metal processing and blanking facility. This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all production equipment, including coil processing lines, blanking lines, material handling systems, cranes, forklifts, and facility infrastructure.

The Maintenance Manager will oversee a team of skilled maintenance technicians and electricians, develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, manage capital improvement projects, and partner with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety to maximize equipment uptime and operational performance. This is a key leadership position that supports continuous improvement while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and equipment reliability.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of maintenance technicians, electricians, and mechanics.
• Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing training and development.
• Schedule maintenance coverage to support production demands, including off-shift and weekend support when required.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Utilize maintenance metrics and equipment data to reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment reliability.
• Ensure timely completion of preventive maintenance schedules.

Equipment Reliability

• Oversee maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of:
  • Coil processing equipment
  • Blanking lines
  • Decoilers and recoilers
  • Straighteners and levelers
  • Servo feed systems
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Overhead cranes
  • Forklifts and material handling equipment
  • Compressors, cooling systems, and plant utilities
• Coordinate equipment installations, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
• Work closely with vendors, OEMs, and contractors to maintain equipment performance.

Electrical & Controls

• Provide leadership in troubleshooting electrical systems up to 480V.
• Support and troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems.
• Collaborate with engineering on equipment upgrades, automation improvements, and process optimization.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with OSHA regulations, NFPA standards, Lockout/Tagout procedures, and company safety policies.
• Conduct routine safety inspections, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
• Promote safe work practices throughout the maintenance department.

Continuous Improvement

• Analyze equipment failures using root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Develop strategies to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
• Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Budget & Inventory Management

• Develop and manage the maintenance department budget.
• Maintain appropriate spare parts inventory and oversee purchasing of maintenance supplies.
• Manage outside contractors and maintenance service providers.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspections, and equipment history using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Prepare reports on maintenance performance, downtime, capital projects, and departmental KPIs.

Emergency Response

• Lead emergency repair efforts to minimize production interruptions.
• Develop contingency plans for critical equipment failures and ensure maintenance staff are prepared to respond.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
• Minimum of five years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting metal processing, coil processing, stamping, blanking, or similar heavy industrial equipment.
• Strong mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Working knowledge of PLCs, industrial controls, sensors, drives, and automation systems.
• Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
• Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred

• Experience in automotive manufacturing or a Tier 1/Tier 2 supplier environment.
• Experience in a union manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
• Welding, fabrication, and machining experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand throughout a manufacturing facility for extended periods.
• Ability to climb ladders, work around heavy industrial equipment, and access elevated work areas.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and high-noise manufacturing environments.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and respond to maintenance emergencies when necessary.

Additional Information

• Occasional travel to other company locations, suppliers, or equipment manufacturers may be required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• This position is expected to be an active presence on the manufacturing floor and requires strong collaboration with production, engineering, quality, and safety teams.
