REGISTERED NURSE SPECIALIST - F/C - 67044209 APD/ DDDP CHATTAHOOCHEE, FL Position: Registered Nurse Forensic, 2nd shift Agency: Agency for Persons with Disabilities Location: Chattahoochee, FL Position Summary Duties of a Registered Nurse Specialist F/C include: Responsible for professional medical care, health, safety, and well‑being of residents ordered by the Court to the custody of the Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program, a 24/7 treatment and training facility. Perform direct nursing care functions as ordered/prescribed and in compliance with applicable policies, Florida Statutes, and scope of practice. Provide health and safety monitoring of all residents by performing thorough documented nursing assessments upon complaints, referrals, or signs and symptoms of adverse medical or psychiatric conditions. Notify and refer to medical or psychiatric provider as necessary and document as required. Ensure all physician‑ordered treatments are carried out as prescribed (e.g., BP, pulse, respirations, temperatures, I & O, phlebotomy, wound care, radiological exam preparation, application of salves/bandages, UA, EKG). Serve as charge person for medical/psychiatric emergencies (e.g., oxygen, suction, CPR, splints). Prepare and document administration and/or refusals of medications according to applicable policies, scope of practice, and best practices. Perform quality control protocols on medications received from pharmacy against physician orders to ensure accuracy; complete Medication Administration Records (MARs). Assume accountability and security of controlled substances and ensure accurate count and documentation. Document in compliance with professional nursing standards, best practices, policies, procedures, and integrated hospital services to ensure quality resident care. Participate in audit/survey processes and provide reports of incidents, illness, and other data at the beginning and end of shift. Conduct direct observation of each new admission within 24 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) and complete Nursing Assessment and Monitoring of Side Effects Scale (MOSES). Initiate flow sheets. Assist physician with examination of residents, make notations, and communicate orders for diet, labs, X‑ray studies, and other medical treatments. Develop, implement, and monitor assigned residents’ treatment and overall well‑being. Ensure monthly documentation of care given, noting progress/lack of progress, and response to all prescribed treatments. Ensure emergency medical carts ("Crash Carts") are checked according to policy and are in good working condition. Comply with APD/Unit "Double‑On" "Double‑Back" Policies. Complete all required training and maintain MANDT certification as required. Maintain accurate timesheet and submit timely. Perform other related duties as required. Other Job‑Related Requirements Certification in the agency‑approved crisis prevention and intervention program at the Advanced level is required unless reasonable accommodation is provided. Incumbents will spend a minimum of 75% of work time performing duties involving direct contact with residents in a secure forensic facility (includes lifting, pulling, and squatting).
