Cornell Cooperative Extension

This position will serve as a Youth Development Educator for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County and, under the leadership and oversight of the Youth and Family Program Manager, will implement youth development programming at schools, community organizations, camps, and other community-based settings.

This position will be responsible for the delivery and coordination of assigned educational programs including 4-H afterschool programming at specified locations, financial education through Mad City Money, Student Government, 4-H Camp Wabasso educational programming including support of school field trips to camp, family engagement activities, community outreach, and other grant-funded and Association youth development initiatives. This position will also provide program support to Community Schools through assistance with educational programming, coordination of materials and supplies, and reporting.

This position will work closely with schools, community organizations, families, Cornell Cooperative Extension staff, and other partners to provide educational opportunities that promote positive youth development, leadership, workforce readiness, financial literacy, STEM, healthy living, and life skills. This position will also provide support to other Youth and Family Program initiatives and 4-H Youth Development programs as assigned.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time non-exempt position - 100% FTE, 40 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $24.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

POSITION INFORMATION:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or Equivalent Education (Bachelor’s Degree and four (4) years transferrable relevant evidence-based research experience).
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with 4-H and other youth development programs.
  • Familiarity with schools, community organizations and youth-serving agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, plan, and evaluate informal educational programs for youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate multiple programs and activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a team member working with staff and community partners.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Responsibilities:

Development - 10%

  • Assist the Youth and Family Program Manager in the development of youth development educational programming and strategies that meet identified program and community needs.
  • Assist in researching, identifying, and selecting existing educational resources and curricula for program use.
  • Assist in structuring assigned educational programs to meet the needs of participating youth, families, schools, and community partners.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with schools, community organizations, program partners, and other youth-serving agencies to strengthen educational programming.
  • Assist in evaluating educational programming and recommending improvements based on evaluation outcomes.
  • Work cooperatively with Youth and Family Program staff to expand educational opportunities and strengthen existing programming.

Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research - 55%

  • Teach and facilitate established youth development educational programming utilizing a variety of delivery methods.
  • Coordinate and implement assigned educational programming within schools, community organizations, Camp Wabasso, and other community-based settings.
  • Deliver educational programming focused on leadership, workforce readiness, workforce development, financial literacy, STEM, healthy living, citizenship, and life skills using established and approved curricula
  • Coordinate and deliver assigned programming including 4-H Afterschool programming (Lyme DODEA), financial literacy education (Mad City Money), civics education (Student Government), workforce development programming, family engagement programming, community-based educational programs, and other grant-funded or Association youth development initiatives.
  • Support 4-H Camp Wabasso through the coordination and delivery of educational programming, supporting school field trips to camp, and other assigned educational activities (to include the low and high ropes challenge course) in cooperation with 4-H Camp Wabasso staff.
  • Assist with Community Schools educational programming by providing program delivery and support, including preparation and organization of educational materials identified in collaboration with Community School Coordinators and the Youth and Family Program Manager.
  • Assist with the collection, organization, and reporting of program data as required.
  • Implement educational programming appropriate for youth of varying ages, maturity levels, abilities, and interests.
  • Serve as a resource to youth, families, schools, community organizations, and program partners.
  • Prepare required program reports and maintain program documentation in accordance with Association and grant requirements.
  • Work cooperatively with Association staff to achieve overall Youth and Family Program goals.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction and Management - 15%

  • Work cooperatively with the Youth and Family Program Manager to establish priorities, objectives, schedules, and programming for assigned Youth and Family Program initiatives.
  • Assist with implementation and monitoring of grant-funded programming in accordance with approved program goals and requirements.
  • Assist in identifying program supply, equipment, transportation, and resource needs.
  • Monitor assigned program expenditures and assist with purchasing, invoicing, and financial documentation in accordance with Association procedures.

Coordination/Operation - 15%

  • Coordinate program schedules, registrations, facilities, transportation, educational materials, supplies, purchasing, and other logistical needs for assigned programming.
  • Coordinate with schools and community partners to schedule educational programming and ensure appropriate space, materials, participant communication, and program support.
  • Assist with community outreach, educational displays, tabling events, and promotion of Youth and Family Program opportunities.
  • Ensure assigned programs are conducted in accordance with Cornell Cooperative Extension policies, grant requirements, insurance requirements, safety procedures, and risk management practices.
  • Assist and support traditional 4-H and countywide Youth and Family Program activities as assigned, including County Fair, State Fair, National 4-H Week, AG Venture Days, and other special events.
  • This position may require the transport of program participants and/or program materials and resources and participation in overnight programs, trips, or events in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor, Youth and Family Issue Leader and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety - Applied to all duties and functions.

  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
