Registered Nurse (RN) - Neurosurgical Unit

This is a 13-week contract position.

Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours, straight night shifts. Requires availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback as per unit needs (36 or 48 hours per week).

The neurosurgical unit offers extraordinary opportunities to care for a diverse patient population. Work with multidisciplinary teams specializing in brain tumors, spinal malformations, neuroendovascular, and epilepsy surgeries. This is a mixed-acuity unit featuring both floor-level care and an 8-bed high-acuity step-down unit for patients with more complex needs requiring hemodynamic and neurological monitoring.

Responsibilities:

• Perform Q1 neuro checks, manage EVDs, lumbar drains, and subdural drains.
• Administer 3% NS, Cardene drips, monitor arterial lines, and support with carotid endarterectomy and aneurysm coiling/clips.
• Assist in DBS Insertion (Deep Brain Stimulator) and VP shunts management.
• Provide effective seizure management for neuro patients.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:

• Must have step-down or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience.
• Two (2) years of high acuity stroke and neurosurgery experience required.
• Telemetry experience is required.
• Current RN License in New York is mandatory.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required.
• ACLS certification is preferred.
• NIHSS certification is required.
