The University of Miami, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, Department of Research, has an exciting full time opportunity for a Research Associate 1, SOM, in Miami, Florida.

The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the Ocular Oncology Laboratory by performing general lab duties, as well as maintain databases, inventories, and mouse colonies. The candidate will perform study related procedures under guidance of Dr. Zelia Correa.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

• Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

• Participates in the publication of significant results.

• Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

• Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

• Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

• Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.

• Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

• Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

• Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

Department Specific Functions

• Responsible for lab housekeeping duties, such as prepare reagents, autoclave supplies, stock

• lab consumables, and maintain sample biorepository.

• Assist PI in the operating room, which includes tissue procurement and specimen processing

• for biorepository.

• Maintain mouse colonies, which includes breeding, genotyping, and performing necropsies.

• Conduct experiments using murine ocular melanoma model.

• Prepare and present data at weekly lab meetings.

• Other duties as assigned.
