The position We are seeking an associate attorney whose primary responsibility will be preparing and representing clients at individual merits hearings before the Immigration Court, principally in Northern Virginia. The attorney will take ownership of assigned hearing matters, often beginning with the final prehearing preparation and 30-day evidentiary supplement, and continuing through the conclusion of the hearing. Responsibilities will include: Representing clients in Immigration Court (Individual Merits Hearings) Preparing and filing applications, declarations, witness lists, exhibits, motions, legal briefs, and prehearing evidentiary supplements. Preparing respondents and supporting witnesses for direct and cross-examination. Appearing as lead counsel at in-person individual merits hearings. Prepare and litigate federal habeas corpus petitions and mandamus actions in detained immigration matters. Managing deadlines, communicating with clients, and coordinating effectively with the firm’s paralegal and support teams. Reviewing the complete record and identifying legal, factual, and evidentiary issues. Developing case strategy in consultation with senior counsel. The associate will also represent clients at USCIS asylum-office and field-office interviews and other immigration matters. This is a full-time, in-person position based in our Manassas office. Court appearances will be primarily in Northern Virginia, with limited regional travel as case needs require. It is to learn how to understand a difficult case, identify and address its weaknesses, develop the record, prepare it thoroughly, and present it effectively. That standard applies consistently to every matter. We do not expect a newer attorney to arrive knowing everything. We do expect intellectual curiosity, accountability, careful preparation, receptiveness to direct feedback, and a genuine desire to improve. For an attorney serious about becoming an excellent immigration litigator, this position offers both the training and responsibility necessary to do so. Qualifications J.D. and active membership in good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy skills. Genuine interest in removal defense and Immigration Court litigation. Careful attention to facts, evidence, and filing deadlines. Strong client communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds. Sound professional judgment, personal accountability, and dependable follow-through. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and support staff. Ability to work full-time in person in Manassas and travel for hearings and interviews. Professional fluency in Spanish, admission to the Virginia Bar, and one to three years of immigration experience are strongly preferred. Prior individual-hearing experience is valuable but not required. We are willing to train the right attorney who has strong foundational skills and is serious about developing as an Immigration Court litigator.
