VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS ASSISTANT (2329)

Position Overview Assists in instruction and reinforcement of visual and performing arts. Provides arts instructional guidance to elementary (PK-6), middle and/or high school students in the VAPA Program. Assists in implementing the VAPA program’s standards across visual arts, digital arts, music, drama, and dance. Employment Details All positions are part‑time: 9.25 months per year, 3 to 6.5 hours per day. Permanent positions are Monday–Friday, with full benefits for the employee only. Substitute employees are paid a fixed hourly rate. Permanent employees may earn higher rates after completing the probationary period of 130 days and may receive merit increases each year up to the maximum amount. Responsibilities Perform a variety of visual and performing arts instruction in accordance with California State Arts Standards and applicable grade‑level standards. Supervise large groups of students during arts activities. Prepare and move arts materials and equipment as needed, teaching correct use. Assist with activity arrangements, prepare bulletin boards and displays of student artwork and performances. Oversee and participate in classroom behavioral expectations. Respond to children’s questions related to arts activities. Administer written or performance‑based assessments. Perform clerical tasks such as maintaining files and records, typing, preparing handouts, operating audio‑visual and office equipment. Assist with class supervision on field trips to museums, performances, and other arts‑related venues; organize culminating events. Perform related work as required. Minimum Requirements High school graduation or equivalent. Associate’s degree or 48 semester units from an accredited institution or higher, meeting ESSA requirements. Background experience with Visual and Performing Arts. Desirable Qualifications Arts‑related coursework and/or certification in the arts. Written and oral proficiency in a second language. Probationary Period 130 days of paid service.
