Job Summary

To provide police service to members of the University community. The incumbent is responsible for responding to calls for service (emergency and non-emergency), self-initiated police activity, special details, and community involvement.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$36.16 per hour

Required Qualifications

1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. Possession of a valid driver's license.

3. No record of conviction of a felony or misdemeanors as identified in the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705 et seq.), or a crime involving moral turpitude.

4. Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.

5. Successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Officers Training course as prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, if required by the employing institution. All recruit law enforcement officers who successfully complete this course after September 1, 1984 are required to successfully pass the Law Enforcement Officers Certification Examination. (Applicants lacking such training at time of appointment will be required to complete such requirement during, and as a part of, their probationary period of employment in this class.)

6. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

7. Offer contingent upon a psychological assessment.

8. Offer contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen/test.

NOTE: Persons who have not successfully completed the mandated firearm training course, as approved and recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, must complete the course during their probationary period. Police officers are not authorized to carry a service weapon until successfully completing such training.

1. PTI experience preferred.

2. Previous police experience.

Special Instructions for Applicants

Fully complete the Education and Work History sections of the application. Be specific on your entire work history, including employment dates (if part-time list number of work hours) and duties for all positions held. Applicable part-time work experience will be considered toward qualifying for this position; however, it will be converted to a full-time equivalency to determine combined length of experience. Please do not put "see resume" in the duties and responsibilities section of the work history. This will be considered an incomplete application and incomplete applications will not be considered.

If you meet the qualifications and skill set required for this position, you will be sent further examination materials for review. Please monitor your e-mail. The examination process is composed of three elements: physical agility, written, and oral board.

- The physical agility portion of the exam will take place on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the Student Fitness Center. Components are a pass/fail. Applicants must pass all four (4) components of the physical fitness test. No make-up dates will be provided for the physical fitness test.
- The written portion consists of a 92 multiple-choice integrity exam with a 30 minute time limit and a 75 multiple-choice knowledge exam with a 2.5 hour time limit. This will take place the week of September 28, 2026.
- Upon passing the cognitive test, you will be given a timeslot for the Police Officer Oral Board which is scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th, and if needed, Wednesday October 21, 2026.

Transfer scores for Police Officer from other state universities will not be accepted.

A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam and a psychological assessment. Employment is contingent on the successful result of each.

Other documentation such as College transcripts (may be unofficial), or Certificate from PTI showing successful completion may be uploaded under Optional Documents, provided to the Testing Coordinator at time of the written or physical agility exam, or sent to Human Resources, Campus Box 1300 Normal, IL 61790-1300.
