Director OF Nursing

We are looking for an accomplished healthcare leader to provide strategic, operational, and financial oversight for Women’s and Newborn Services . This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality care and efficient operations for obstetric and neonatal patients. The Director will provide leadership across Labor & Delivery, maternity surgical services, Mom/Baby, Normal Newborn Nursery, Lactation, Level II and Level III NICU, neonatal transport, OB Emergency Services, outreach, education, and data/registry programs . This leader will be responsible for achieving strong clinical outcomes, maintaining regulatory and accreditation standards, improving patient and family experience, fostering employee engagement, and managing financial performance. The role also partners with physicians, other hospital service lines, rural healthcare providers, and community organizations to strengthen care coordination and expand access to services. The Director is expected to build a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture centered on patient safety, clinical excellence, innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement . Core Responsibilities Provide administrative and operational leadership for Women’s and Newborn Services across multiple hospital campuses. Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets while ensuring appropriate utilization of financial resources. Establish strategic priorities and develop partnerships that support organizational and service-line objectives. Direct clinical operations, including staffing, care standards, clinical pathways, patient-care evaluation, and performance improvement initiatives. Act as the primary administrative liaison for physicians and Medical Staff leadership. Assess and allocate staffing, equipment, supplies, and financial resources based on operational and patient-care needs. Collaborate with hospital and service-line leaders to improve patient flow, transitions of care, and cross-department coordination. Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and specialty-designation requirements. Analyze quality indicators, clinical outcomes, research, and performance data to identify opportunities for improvement. Apply knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and payer requirements when assessing operational efficiency and financial performance. Identify opportunities for service expansion and lead the implementation of new or enhanced programs. Promote patient- and family-centered care while maintaining high standards for quality, service, safety, and cost effectiveness. Establish clear goals and performance expectations for department leaders and continuously monitor results. Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to develop a strong leadership team. Ensure consistent standards of care across campuses while adapting services to the needs of different patient populations. Promote a strong culture of patient and employee safety and support Just Culture principles. Encourage innovation in clinical practice, care delivery, and care coordination. Lead initiatives addressing current nursing and healthcare trends while supporting professional nursing practice and engagement. Support professional nursing shared governance and organizational nursing-practice models. Demonstrate strong emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and effective communication. Successfully manage organizational change, conflict resolution, negotiation, and mediation. Build an environment of trust, collaboration, accountability, and continuous pursuit of excellence. Required Qualifications Education Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or another related field – Required Licensure & Certifications Current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license – Required BLS certification – Required Valid driver’s license for work-related driving – Required Compact RN license accepted Leadership Experience Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible leadership experience at the manager level or above in NICU and/or Obstetrics – Required Demonstrated success in improving clinical, operational, quality, or patient-care outcomes. #J-18808-Ljbffr
