Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. Award amounts (up to $200,000) and eligibility periods (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Qualifications Applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Candidates pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA physicians who met the prior qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine. Degree must have been obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs in the year of completion. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency training: Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification. Approved residencies include ACGME or AOA accredited programs, or one year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice, or non‑U.S. residency training followed by a minimum of three years of verified independent practice in the U.S. with related duties. Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs who would otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent basis. PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Exceptions may be granted on rare occasions by a Facility Director through the VISN Director and Chief Medical Officer. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred experience: Management of a broad pulmonary clinic, pulmonary consultation, and critical care medicine, with a strong interest in bronchoscopy. Capabilities in Navigational Bronchoscopy and EBUS Bronchoscopy board certification. Physical requirements: see Handbook 5013. Duties Serve as an independent physician provider in the Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep Section within the Medicine Service line. Provide medical care in all aspects of patient care—including inpatient, outpatient, and critical care—within the field of board‑eligible or board‑certified expertise. Participate in patient care, teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities of the Division as assigned. Provide expert consultation and treatment in outpatient pulmonary and/or sleep clinics, inpatient wards, and the ICU; basic sleep disorder management competency is expected, with advanced management evaluated by board‑certified sleep medicine providers. Triage and evaluate consultations for inpatient and outpatient pulmonary, critical care, and sleep subspecialty settings. Obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, order and evaluate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients. Coordinate medical management and care within the discipline with primary care providers and other medical/surgical services in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system. Provide on‑call services for the section as assigned, sharing after‑hour call responsibilities with section physicians in rotation. Monitor quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care at the section and facility levels. Perform administrative tasks as assigned, including peer reviews, ongoing professional practice evaluations, special projects, and participation in educational programs for section personnel. Attend required team meetings regularly; qualify for a University of Colorado–Anschutz faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine to work with trainees; demonstrate ethical conduct and serve as a positive role model. Complete medical records in accordance with the bylaws, rules, and regulations of the Medical Staff.
