About the Opportunity

Serapi Rug Gallery is an established luxury handmade rug gallery located in the heart of downtown Los Gatos. We specialize in fine handmade rugs from around the world and work with homeowners, interior designers, and clients throughout Silicon Valley and the greater Bay Area.

We are looking for a personable, motivated sales professional to join our showroom team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys relationship-based sales, appreciates design and craftsmanship, and would like to work in a beautiful boutique environment rather than a traditional high-volume retail setting.

Previous rug experience is not required. We will provide training and teach the right candidate about handmade rugs, materials, craftsmanship, styles, and our collections. A strong background in sales, client service, or another relationship-driven business is more important to us.

Compensation & Earning Potential

Estimated Total Annual Compensation: $75,000–$130,000+

Compensation consists of a guaranteed base plus commission and is designed to reward individual sales performance.

Actual earnings will vary based on experience and sales results. Someone developing their sales experience may initially earn toward the lower end of the range, while an experienced and highly productive salesperson can earn toward the upper end or potentially beyond it.

For someone who is motivated by sales and enjoys developing client relationships, this position offers significant earning potential and the opportunity to directly benefit from the business they generate.

What You'll Do

• Welcome and assist clients in our Los Gatos showroom
• Help customers select rugs based on their homes, interiors, personal style, and needs
• Develop client relationships and follow up with prospective and existing customers
• Learn to confidently present the craftsmanship, materials, origins, and unique qualities of handmade rugs
• Work with interior designers and other design professionals
• Visit clients' homes for consultations, in-home rug trials, deliveries, and installations
• Assist with placing and installing rugs in clients' homes
• Coordinate in-home pickup and delivery for rug cleaning, repair, and restoration services
• Assist customers bringing rugs to the showroom for cleaning and repair services
• Maintain an attractive, organized, and welcoming showroom
• Help display, move, roll, and handle rugs both in the showroom and at clients' homes
• Participate in the day-to-day operations of a small, established luxury business

Who We're Looking For

• Previous sales or client-facing experience
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Warm, professional, and comfortable working with discerning clientele
• Self-motivated and comfortable taking initiative
• Organized, dependable, and able to work independently
• Comfortable following up with clients and developing relationships over time
• An interest in interior design, art, craftsmanship, or luxury home furnishings is a plus
• Experience in luxury retail, furniture, interior design, art, jewelry, automotive, hospitality, real estate, or other consultative sales environments is especially relevant
• Comfortable with the physical aspects of the position, including handling, displaying, moving, and installing rugs
• Able to commute reliably to our downtown Los Gatos showroom and travel locally to clients' homes

Excellent Working Hours

One of the advantages of this position is an attractive daytime schedule with no late evenings .

Showroom Hours:
Tuesday–Saturday: 10:00 AM–5:00 PM
Sunday: 11:00 AM–4:00 PM
Monday: Closed

This is a full-time position, with the employee's regular schedule arranged within our showroom hours.

For professionals coming from hospitality, traditional retail, automotive sales, or other industries that often require early mornings or late evenings, this position provides an opportunity for strong earning potential while maintaining a more balanced daily schedule.

More Than a Traditional Retail Position

Our business is highly personal and consultative. Purchasing a handmade rug is often a significant decision, and our clients rely on us for knowledge, guidance, and honest recommendations.

Not every sale takes place in the showroom. We frequently bring selected rugs directly to clients' homes so they can experience them in their own environment. Our team assists with selection, placement, delivery, and installation, creating a much more personal sales experience than conventional retail.

The position therefore offers considerable variety. Some days are spent working with clients in the gallery, while others may include visiting homes, working with interior designers, installing rugs, coordinating cleaning and repair services, and following up on sales opportunities.
