Overview

The Crew Lead role is responsible for leading a two-person crew through nightly commercial carpet cleaning service at client retail locations across a multi-state territory (NC, SC, GA, TN, AL, MS). This role owns execution at the site level — ensuring each scheduled store is serviced correctly, on time, and to Sunset Bay’s quality standard — while also serving as the primary driver and logistics point person for the crew’s multi-night travel.

This is a working leadership role that requires both the hands-on ability to perform and oversee carpet cleaning work and the judgment to manage a crew, a route, and unexpected site issues independently, with minimal direct supervision most nights.

A “win” in this role is defined by quality-checked store service delivered on schedule, safe and reliable crew travel across the territory, and growing confidence from both our clients and Sunset Bay leadership that a store assigned to this crew will be done right without anyone needing to follow up.

Schedule & Travel Expectations

• Night shift work, typically beginning around 8:00 PM
• Multi-state service territory: NC, SC, GA, TN, AL, MS
• Multi-night travel legs requiring hotel stays away from home
• Route and schedule can shift week to week based on job assignments and store availability windows

Key Accountabilities

• Crew Leadership & Execution
• • Lead a two-person crew through nightly commercial carpet cleaning assignments at scheduled store locations
  • Ensure work meets Sunset Bay’s quality standard before departing each site
  • Work side-by-side with the Carpet Cleaning Technician, setting the pace and standard for the shift
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for on-site issues — store access, equipment problems, scheduling conflicts
• Vehicle & Route Management
• • Operate the company cargo van as primary driver, including multi-hour highway travel between states
  • Manage the nightly route and job sequencing to keep the crew on schedule
  • Coordinate hotel logistics during multi-night travel legs
  • Perform basic vehicle and equipment upkeep and report mechanical issues promptly
• Equipment & Site Care
• • Operate and maintain carpet cleaning equipment (extraction units, hoses, cleaning solutions) per manufacturer and company standards
  • Load, unload, and secure equipment for transport between sites
  • Identify and report equipment issues before they affect job completion
  • Represent Sunset Bay professionally at every client location
• Communication & Reporting
• • Communicate site issues, delays, or quality concerns to management in real time
  • Confirm job completion and note any site-specific issues after each stop
  • Photograph job site concerns and completed work (restroom flooring, showroom carpet) for record and quality verification
  • Flag recurring problems at specific stores or with specific equipment

Outputs

• Completed and quality-checked carpet cleaning service at every scheduled store, on time
• Safe, on-schedule crew travel across the multi-state territory
• Properly maintained equipment and vehicle
• Clear, timely communication with management on job status and issues
• A carpet cleaning technician who is trained and developing toward future Crew Lead readiness

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

• Ability to lift and carry cleaning equipment (hoses, wands, solution containers) repeatedly through a shift
• Extended periods standing and walking during overnight hours
• Ability to work a reversed sleep schedule and stay alert through long highway drives, including after a physically demanding shift

Vehicle & Driving Requirements

• Valid driver’s license required — this role is the primary operator of the company cargo van
• Clean driving record preferred; this role carries the crew and company equipment across state lines
• Comfortable with multi-hour highway driving, including overnight and following a physically demanding shift
• Responsible for basic pre/post-trip vehicle checks and reporting maintenance needs promptly

Skills & Experience

• Demonstrated reliability — consistent attendance and follow-through with minimal supervision
• Crew leadership experience preferred (e.g., landscape, construction, or similar field-based crew lead experience) — carpet cleaning experience is not required and training will be provided
• Comfortable making on-the-spot decisions when a job or site doesn’t go as planned
• Strong communication skills — able to represent the company well with client-site staff

Required Technical Knowledge

Candidates are not expected to have prior experience with Sunset Bay’s specific equipment. We are looking for someone with the mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability to become proficient quickly.

• Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, hot water extraction / carpet cleaning equipment and processes
• Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment issues on-site
• Familiarity with navigation apps (Google Maps, Apple Maps, or similar) for multi-state route travel
