Student Success and Retention Specialist

Job Summary The Student Success and Retention Specialist is a key member of the Student Affairs team responsible for coordinating student support and retention initiatives, with a particular focus on basic needs programming and student engagement. This role is highly functional and hands‑on, combining direct student support, program coordination, and operational responsibilities. The position also requires specialized skills in communications, marketing, and web content management to effectively promote services and engage students. The Specialist serves as a central point of contact and provides front‑line administrative and operational support as needed to ensure continuity of services. This is a fully in‑person position and work schedule will vary based on program and operational needs (including some evening hours). Minimum Qualifications Masters degree in Higher Education, Communications, or a related field One (1) year of relevant experience in student services, higher education, or a related setting Experience working with students from underserved populations, including those facing basic needs or other challenges Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with discretion Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a higher education environment Experience coordinating programs or events Experience with website management, digital communications, or marketing Familiarity with student support programs or grant‑funded initiatives Work Days Varied based on programs and operational needs; Typical hours fall between 8:30 AM and 7:30 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends. #J-18808-Ljbffr Upstate Medical University
