Stepdown Nurse (RN) in Huntersville, NC

Take on a pivotal role in a newly established, medical-based Progressive Care Unit (PCU) providing specialized care to adults with complex conditions such as CHF, COPD, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, and more. This opportunity is ideal for registered nurses with strong PCU backgrounds, keen to contribute as the unit grows and adapts.


Schedule/Hours:

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 am-7:00 pm or 7:00 pm-7:00 am
• Weekend rotation: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (potential for additional coverage if needed)
• No required on-call
• Self-scheduling in 6-week blocks, pending manager approval
• Holiday coverage expectation: 75% of holidays in the contract
• Contract position

Qualifications:

• Active RN license with BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Minimum 2 years of recent PCU experience required
  • First-time travelers must have at least 5 years of PCU experience
• Proficiency with EPIC required
• Skilled in IV starts, wound care, central lines, NG tube placement, PCA/kangaroo pumps, monitoring cardiac rhythms, and drawing labs (no phlebotomy support)
• Confident with titrating drips: Cardizem, amiodarone, nitroglycerin, heparin, and insulin (Endotool)
• Willingness to learn vented patient care and Precedex drips if not already experienced
• Comfortable floating within the region (including MedSurg at 1:4 ratio and other specified facilities)

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver comprehensive care to adult PCU patients with diverse diagnoses
• Monitor and document patients using EPIC EMR
• Collaborate with unit support, including CNAs, charge nurse, and 24/7 RT
• Manage own patient cardiac monitoring (no centralized tele tech)
• Adhere to facility and unit safety and quality standards
