Special Education: Physical Therapist (Part-Time - 3 Days/Week)

Physical Therapist

Primary Job Functions: To provide physical therapy services for students whose physical limitations impede their educational progress.

Salary Benefits: Starting at $32,400.00 - commensurate with experience (this is a Part-Time position; 3 days/week). Eligible for benefits (health, dental, vision, life insurance, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications and Credentials Required:

• Educational Requirements: Must be licensed by the State of Indiana to be a physical therapist.
• Possess Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrate ability to work with staff, students and parents; organize time effectively; is knowledgeable in the field.
• Experience: Experience in school setting preferred.
• Certification: Appropriate training and course completion in a certified training institution to satisfy license requirements.

Essential Functions:

• Physical therapy is provided as a related service to assist a student to gain maximum benefit from the student's educational services.
• Assists in removal of barriers within the student's school environment.
• Works in conjunction with the teacher to enable the student to acquire the functional abilities needed to access educational materials and to move about the school.
• Adapts equipment so that the student can function better in the classroom, lunchroom, restroom.
• Helps student participate in age-appropriate activities outside the school building, i.e. mobility for the playground, field trips, sports events and within the community.
• Communicates effectively in all areas: listening, speaking, writing and reading, with students, parents, and school personnel.
• Exhibits a warm and engaging personality that causes students to trust and accept the therapist.
• Exhibits a caring attitude.
• Exhibits a positive attitude toward public education.
• Exhibits a positive and supporting attitude toward students with the belief that they are worthwhile and worthy of assistance.
• Believes that students can succeed with proper assistance and time provided.
• Works with a minimum amount of supervision.
• Is trustworthy, dependable, and maintains confidentiality.
• Be an example of exemplary adult behavior for students.
• Project a genuine care and concern for all students.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
