The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Facilities Management RAF Main Campus department is responsible for maintaining the safety, reliability, functionality, and operational readiness of critical infrastructure supporting research, administrative, and institutional operations across the Research Main Campus. The Senior Instrumentation Technician serves as a subject matter expert supporting complex electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and HVAC control systems that are vital to facility operations. Within Facilities Management RAF Main Campus, the Senior Instrumentation Technician provides advanced technical support for more than 2.1 million square feet of mixed-use facilities. The Senior Instrumentation Technician performs preventive and reactive maintenance, supports critical building systems, assists multiple specialized facility operations groups, and contributes to emergency preparedness efforts. The Senior Instrumentation Technician plays an essential role in maintaining safe, efficient, and reliable operations that directly support UT MD Anderson's mission. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting instrumentation, controls, HVAC systems, and electrical infrastructure in a large, complex environment. Preferred experience includes programming microprocessors, commissioning and tuning control systems, coordinating technical workflows, supporting vendors and contractors, participating in project reviews, and providing operational leadership. A State of Texas TDLR Journeyman Electrician License is required. Experience supporting elevators, high voltage systems, Fire Life Safety systems, and Code Red fire alarm response activities is preferred. Salary Range: $82,500 - $103,000 - $123,500 Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7am-3:30pm Why Us? SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Senior Instrumentation Technician position is to provide subject matter expert providing highly skilled technical work involving electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic controls of typical state-of-the-art hospital facilities systems and equipment. Impacts the installation, maintenance and repair of Institutional electronic, electrical, mechanical and pneumatic controls and equipment . ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Reads, draws and interprets electrical, pneumatic, mechanical and heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) schematics, one line diagrams and control sequence of operations. Programs microprocessors for initial commissioning, tune of control loops and calibration of analog inputs. Performs functions on live circuits and in operating controls enclosures. May install, troubleshoot and repair 120, 208, 240 and 480 volt controls and equipment per NEC guidelines. Coordinates and prioritizes the workflow of technicians. Investigates outages. Participates in the development of the "Owners Design Guidelines", project design phases and review processes. Inspects contracted instrumentation work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant. Functions as a point of contact for vendors. Prepares and submits reports. Participates in process improvement initiatives. May precept staff. JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES Maintain Facility appearance, Functionality and Safety Knowledge of typical HVAC system control strategies. Assist with the repair/calibrate HVAC systems to include air handling units, fan coil units, terminal boxes, dampers, thermostats, sensors, control valves, and associated HVAC equipment. Program microprocessors for initial commissioning and tune operating controls. Read and interpret HVAC, mechanical, electronic, and electrical schematics, blueprints, and floor plans. Keep other instrumentation and crafts informed with the knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job. Quickly respond to client "Dispatch" work order requests for a variety of tasks. Disable malfunctioning equipment. Disable malfunctioning equipment. Reduce Outside Contractor Costs Keep up to date on the knowledge of the National Electrical Code for electrical installations. Coordinate all work performed by other shops, which require a basic knowledge of overall physical plant operations when, requested by Physical Plant Utilities Operations Superintendent, Supervisor, or Manager. The employee may be expected to be part of an on-call group and when assigned this responsibility will be compensated for that time. When on-call, the employee must be available and be able to respond in accordance to policy. Periods of alert when Emergency Conditions may be expected are not considered on-call. EDUCATION Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred: Associate's Degree Electronics or related field. WORK EXPERIENCE Required: Eight years Electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include two years of electrical experience. or Required: Six years Electronic, building automated systems and pneumatic controls experience to include one year of electrical experience with Journeyman Electrician's license.
