The Legal Assistant/Runner provides administrative and legal support to attorneys, paralegals, and other staff while also handling the firm’s outside errands, filings, and document deliveries. This position requires someone who is dependable, organized, professional, detail-oriented, able to follow instructions, and willing to assist wherever needed in a fast-paced law office.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys and paralegals with basic preparation of correspondence, forms, notices, and other documents.
• Scan, copy, print, organize, and save legal documents and correspondence.
• Maintain organized physical and electronic case files.
• Assist with preparing files, binders, exhibits, hearing materials, deposition materials, and trial notebooks.
• Assist with obtaining court records, medical records, public records, and other documents as directed.
• Help organize incoming documents and ensure they are provided to the appropriate attorney or paralegal.
• Perform basic data entry and update case information in the firm’s case-management system.
• Serve as backup for answering incoming telephone calls and assist with reception duties as needed.
• Deliver and retrieve documents from courthouses, clerk’s offices, government agencies, other law firms, clients, and vendors.
• File legal documents with courts and governmental offices as directed.
• Pick up and deliver mail, records, supplies, checks, and other firm materials.
• Maintain confidentiality of all client and firm information.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when representing the firm at courthouses, offices, and other locations.
• Perform other administrative, legal-support, and office duties as assigned.
• Notary of South Carolina is a plus but not mandatory.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have strong organizational and communication skills, excellent attention to detail, basic computer skills, and the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.

Prior law-office experience is helpful but not required if the candidate is dependable, professional, and willing to learn.

A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel locally during the workday are required.

The employee must be able to handle confidential information appropriately and work independently while following instructions and established office procedures.
