Star Hospice —a proud member of the LHC Group family —has been serving Lake, Cook, and McHenry Counties for over 40 years. We are honored to be a Level 4 partner in the We Honor Veterans program , reflecting our deep commitment to those who’ve served.

Hospice volunteers often share that supporting patients and families during life’s most vulnerable moments is profoundly meaningful. It’s a chance to offer comfort, connection, and dignity when it matters most.

Volunteers provide non-clinical companionship and emotional support through activities such as:

Friendly conversations and storytelling
Reading to patients or writing letters and cards
Watching TV or movies together
Playing games like cards
Listening to music
Simply being present to offer comfort
Providing respite time for family caregivers
