Job TitleCustodian - CPay Rate Min to Mid Range$17.55 - $20.18Time TypeFull timeSummaryDescriptionUnder general supervision, performs custodial duties and ensures sanitation control.Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerforms general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, sanitizing, cleaning restrooms/kitchens, and restocking of supplies as neededPerforms routine maintenance to custodial equipment and suppliesEmpties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposalUnlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areasReports needs and concerns to Custodial Supervisor, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels; responsible for reporting concerns related to Bexar County buildings and facilitiesEnsures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practicesDemonstrates safe and proper use of chemical/cleaning solutions and replenishing of housekeeping cartsPerforms cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirementsAll staff members share responsibility for delivering exceptional services and ensuring custodial guidelines are metPerform other job-related duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsHigh School or General Education Development (GED) certificate, or six (6) months of general housekeeping, custodian, or janitorial experienceGood knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and methods of custodial and sanitation functions; good knowledge of safety standards and practicesSkill in operating cleaning equipment, such as buffers, strippers, waxers, vacuums, carpet cleaning machines; cleaning windows, dusting furniture, and unstopping toiletsAbility to perform a variety of maintenance functions; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, department heads, County employees, outside agencies/vendors and the publicMust maintain appropriate level of confidentiality in all business and facility interactionsMust be able to work non-traditional hours to include evenings and weekendsMust secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's OfficeMust clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen testWorking With Bexar CountyBexar County offers employees a competitive salary, retirement, and benefits.
