Custodian PositionThe Custodian plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the school by maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized environment that promotes learning and community engagement. This position ensures that all facilities are properly maintained and operational, contributing directly to the effectiveness of staff and students. The Custodian exercises sound judgment in daily responsibilities while adhering to organizational policies and standards.Key ResponsibilitiesUphold and support the mission and philosophy of the Catholic SchoolModel Gospel values through professional conduct and daily interactionsFollow all Religious Standards, policies, and procedures of the ArchdioceseMaintain strict confidentiality in all sensitive mattersPerform daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, kitchens, hallways, and carpeted areasClean, disinfect, and restock bathrooms to ensure hygiene and safety standardsRemove trash from all areas, including offices and dining spaces, on a daily basisCarry out scheduled deep cleaning tasks (weekly, monthly, and seasonal)Assist with setup and breakdown for meetings, events, and school activitiesRoutinely disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, phones, and switchesMaintain exterior areas, including entrances and walkways, in a clean and safe conditionApply proper sanitation practices and universal precautions in all cleaning dutiesSecure facilities by managing keys, locking buildings, adjusting thermostats, and turning off lightsDemonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong work ethic at all timesMaintain a consistent schedule that supports staff and school operationsAdditional ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with faculty and staff to maintain a positive and efficient work environmentRespond promptly to emergency cleanups and minor repair needsPerform routine maintenance tasks and basic repairs as neededCoordinate with and monitor external contractors when applicableCommunicate facility issues and maintenance needs to the principal in a timely mannerRequirementsKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic ChurchAbility to work independentlyAbility to work well with othersAbility to work in a fast-paced school environmentSkill in critical thinking and planningWorking ConditionsRequired to work some nights and weekendsRequired to manage high to moderate levels of stressRequired to work a minimum of a full school dayRequired to work in standard work conditionsMental/Physical DemandsRequired to lift or carry furniture, equipment, and suppliesRequired to maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of angerRequired to perform strenuous walking, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, climbing, twisting, grasping, and reaching overheadRequired to hear, see, and speak on a daily basisRequired to work with chemicals, exposure to dust, and slippery and uneven walking surfacesRequired to work in various climate conditionsQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent, preferredExperience with past custodial work or building maintenance preferred but not requiredLicense and CredentialsReliable transportationMust pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screeningMust pass Texas DPS Fingerprint-based Applicant Clearinghouse screeningThis is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, or working conditions associated with the job.
