Staff gynecologists at Student Health are responsible for providing comprehensive, patient-centered medical care to female students attending the University of Iowa. This includes evaluating and treating a wide range of health concerns, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, prescribing medications, and offering health education to support students’ overall well-being and academic success. Specific Job Duties and Tasks Gynecologic care — Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for students. Diagnostic management — Perform and order appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Medication oversight — Prescribe, dispense, monitor medications, and adjust treatment plans. Patient counseling — Counsel patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, and self management. Chronic care coordination — Coordinate care for chronic or complex conditions with specialists. Care plan monitoring — Monitor patient progress and modify care plans for optimal outcomes. Evidence based evaluation — Evaluate treatment effectiveness using evidence based approaches. Clinical documentation — Complete accurate, timely medical records, reports, and billing documentation. Documentation quality assurance — Correct charting errors and guide junior staff on documentation, privacy, and confidentiality. Policy and ethics adherence — Implement and uphold healthcare policies, ethical standards, and patient centered practices. Quality improvement — Participate in chart reviews, performance initiatives, and clinical committees. Clinical leadership — Lead multidisciplinary teams to evaluate and enhance clinical performance. Technology integration — Leverage technology for data sharing, quality monitoring, and improved outcomes. Education Requirement Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school. OB/GYN residency training required. Valid license to practice medicine in the State of Iowa. Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Requirements Minimum of three (3) years of professional clinical experience. Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of college health issues. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience fostering a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive clinical environment. Desirable Qualifications Previous experience in a higher education, college health, or student-centered clinical setting. Experience working with young adult or college aged populations in an outpatient or primary care environment. Proficiency with Epic or similar electronic health record systems and strong clinical documentation skills highly desired. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams (e.g., counselors, nurses, physician assistants, psychiatrists). Experience contributing to quality improvement, performance assessment, or clinical outcomes initiatives.
