Illinois Casualty Company is growing, and we have an opportunity for a Claims Assistant to join one of the leading providers of insurance protection for the food and beverage industry. This is an entry level position with no prior experience required.


The Claims Assistant primarily provides miscellaneous claims support to adjusters and management personnel within the Claims Department and reports directly to a supervisory or management position as directed. This position also performs various functions of a general clerical nature and serves as back-up to the Claims Administrative Assistant. The Claims Assistant may also provide gathering and reporting support to departmental management personnel regarding departmental metrics and other miscellaneous matters.

Essential Function

• Receiving, sorting, and indexing all incoming mail to the appropriate claims files
• Entering new claims and advising supervisory and/or management of their creation as they are generated
• Completing all tasks associated with processing payments of non-suit and WC defense legal bills
• Completing all tasks associated with posting reinsurance receipts into IDMS (as back up to Paralegal)
• Completing all tasks associated with processing various payments associated with claims files (as assigned)
• Providing miscellaneous claims support to our adjusters including but not necessarily limited to such tasks as:
  • completing media searches
  • preparing and sending claims mailings (checks and various correspondences)
  • making assignments to vendors
  • requesting various public records (such as police and fire reports)
  • creating spreadsheets for various information
  • securing medical records
  • other miscellaneous tasks as may be assigned
• Printing and preparing all checks and correspondence generated by the field adjusters
• Serving as back up to the Claims Administrative Assistant by completing any of the essential functions of that position as may be requested
• Completing additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent experience and a minimum two years of clerical experience with a high level of proficiency in alpha numeric data entry

• Intermediate level proficiency in word processing, spread sheeting, and presentation skills
• Ability to prepare business correspondence and reports

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information. Ability to respond to routine inquiries from employees, agents, policy holders, and vendors
• Ability to accurately perform complex mathematical functions as necessary to make projections, identify and analyze problems
• Ability to solve practical simple problems where standardization exists
• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks accurately and efficiently
