How You Will Make an Impact Operate basic light, medium, and heavy equipment, including but not limited to bulldozers, excavators, and trucks Perform snow and ice removal procedures, ensuring safe and timely clearing of roads and pathways during winter months Service, repair, and replace culverts and ditches to maintain proper drainage and prevent water accumulation on roadways Repair and maintain county roads, including patching potholes, resurfacing, and ensuring the structural integrity of the roadways Install and repair fence wires and fence posts to secure property lines and maintain the perimeter of various areas Use spray equipment to manage and control weeds, ensuring vegetation growth does not interfere with road maintenance and safety What You Need to Succeed in this Role High school diploma or GED and previous related work experience. A comparable combination of education and experience may also be considered. A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with an air brake endorsement is required, and a safe driving record must be maintained. Must successfully complete the pre-employment background process. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in various weather conditions. Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions. Knowledge of equipment, materials, and tools used in routine road construction and repair. Ability to safely and efficiently use and maintain a variety of hand tools and power tools. Knowledge of, and adherence to, safety regulations and safe work methods. Ability to respond to weather and road-related emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Knowledge of and skill in using technology and related software systems. Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public. Must present a professional appearance and communicate with others in a respectful and approachable manner. Health/Prescription - Minnehaha County's health benefit plan offers low deductibles with two network options for coverage: Avera or Sanford. The county pays for 75% of the premium rates. Pharmacy benefits included. Dental - Minnehaha County offers dental insurance through Delta Dental which covers 100% of diagnostic and preventative services. Life Insurance - Minnehaha County provides a $15,000 basic life insurance policy for every full-time employee along with an additional $15,000 accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) benefit. Additional term life insurance and AD&D may be purchased by employees for themselves and dependents through payroll deduction. Retirement Retirement Plan - Minnehaha County participates in the South Dakota Retirement System. Employees receive a 6% match (8% for certified law enforcement). Other SDRS benefits include long term disability. Employees are vested after 3 years of continuous employment. Deferred Compensation Plan - Employees may choose to save additional funds toward retirement on a pre-tax or after-tax (Roth IRA) basis through our supplemental retirement program.
