CAD/PDM Systems Admin

Salary: $70,000 - 110,000 per year Requirements:

• We require an associates or bachelors degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical experience.
• We need at least 5 years of hands-on SolidWorks administration and support in a production engineering setting.
• We require demonstrated SolidWorks PDM administration experience, including vault configuration, workflows, permissions, and troubleshooting.
• We look for working knowledge of engineering-grade workstation hardware, GPU and driver management, and Windows performance optimization.
• We expect experience supporting the BOM process and a solid understanding of engineering data structures.
• We need strong root-cause troubleshooting skills across software, hardware, and integration layers.
• We value excellent documentation and communication abilities, along with the patience to train and support non-technical engineers.
• Preferred qualifications include experience connecting CAD/PDM data to ERP or PLM platforms such as SAP.
• Preferred qualifications include SolidWorks certifications such as CSWP or CSWE, or PDM administration certification.
• Preferred qualifications include PowerShell or similar scripting experience for automation and configuration management.
• Preferred qualifications include familiarity with manufacturing environments, especially wire, cable, or heavy equipment.
• Preferred qualifications include exposure to FEA and simulation workloads, plus workstation tuning.
• Preferred qualifications include experience with endpoint management tools such as Intune or Autopilot, Active Directory, and enterprise security systems.

• We serve as the subject matter expert for SolidWorks, eDrawings, and SolidWorks PDM, acting as the final escalation point for CAD and PDM issues.
• We advise engineering and IT leadership on standards, strategy, and tooling.
• We administer SolidWorks and add-ins across the engineering fleet, including deployments, upgrades, service packs, settings, and templates.
• We validate changes in a test environment before they are released to production.
• We manage the SolidWorks PDM vault, including permissions, workflows, revision and lifecycle rules, data cards, backups, and replication.
• We design release processes with Document Control, onboard new users, and maintain vault health.
• We specify, configure, and tune engineering workstations for CAD, large-assembly, and FEA workloads.
• We maintain certified GPU driver, BIOS, and firmware standards and build repeatable deployment images.
• We establish performance baselines, monitor stability and crash data, perform root-cause analysis, and plan capacity and hardware refresh cycles.
• We support BOM processes and tools, maintain CAD/PDM-to-ERP integrations, and improve part numbering, metadata, and BOM structure.
• We automate repetitive tasks through scripting and APIs where beneficial.
• We track SolidWorks license manager and third-party licenses for allocation, renewals, and audit readiness.
• We create and maintain clear work instructions and standards for the team.
• We support other engineering software and specialized hardware, including third-party applications and 3D printers.

We are Sherman + Reilly, a Chattanooga-based manufacturer with nearly a century of experience designing and building pullers, tensioners, reel trailers, and stringing blocks that help electric utility crews safely string transmission and distribution lines across North America. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role supporting a close-knit engineering team of about 20 designers and engineers. You will work on site with our engineering group, with occasional time on the manufacturing floor, and planned system maintenance is scheduled outside core hours to keep our team productive.
