Registered Nurse I - MC/CHC - Detention Care Unit

The County of Riverside’s Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is recruiting for a Registered Nurse I – MC/CHC to work in the Detention Care Unit/Incarcerated Patients Unit in a regular, full‑time capacity. The position includes performing professional nursing duties in patient care, assisting physicians, carrying out physician orders, and coordinating continuum of care for selected patients from pre‑admission to post‑discharge. Responsibilities Assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with physician instructions; make preliminary observations and prepare patients for medical treatment. Assist physicians in administering treatments and conducting medical examinations, diagnostic tests and surgical operations. Administer or dispense prescribed treatments and medications; chart and report changes in condition and general progress. Provide counseling and advice to patients, families, and significant others regarding medical issues and healthcare methods; maintain concise and complete records. Instruct patients in fulfilling physician orders; transcribe orders into working records. Participate in quality assurance reviews and serve as a team leader when appropriate. Education & Experience Successful completion of the education required to obtain a valid Registered Nurse license in California (a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing or a health‑related field may be required for some positions). No prior nursing experience required. Licenses & Certifications Valid Registered Nurse license in California. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association. Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification issued by the American Heart Association, Blue Cloud‑National Stroke Association, or Apex. Valid California driver’s license may be required. Knowledge & Ability Knowledge of the theory, techniques, and practices of professional nursing; common medical terminology; hospital and/or healthcare procedures and equipment; the purposes and effects of medicine and narcotics. Ability to perform the full range of nursing duties and responsibilities; follow oral and written procedures; maintain concise and complete records; plan and organize nursing plans; establish and maintain effective relationships with physicians, patients, and co‑workers.
