Direct Support Professional

Location: Washington, DC 20017 Title: Direct Support Professional Job Type: Independent Contractor 1099 Job Summary Direct support professional role providing support and care to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities within a residential setting. Responsibilities Provide support and care to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Communicate with individuals’ families, IDT members, day program staff, and other service providers. Instruct, support, and participate in household tasks including cleaning, preparing meals, and food shopping. Prepare food according to developed menus, individual preferences, and prescribed diets. Assist in developing daily living skills by addressing social, environmental, and health care needs. Transport individuals and/or provide mobility training to assist them with attending appointments, community rehabilitation programs, grocery shopping, and other activities. Attend client meetings, training in‑services, house and program meetings as instructed. Ensure compliance with VOAC program requirements, environment‑specific rules, and regulations from all monitoring entities. Qualifications Passion for assisting others with daily activities, accompanying them to doctor appointments, performing light housekeeping duties, running errands, and providing companionship. Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent. Effective communication skills with persons being serviced. Basic computer skills. Experience in a residential setting supporting persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Experience working with people who are medically fragile and/or have physical limitations.
