Veterinary Extern - General Practice

An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with hands‑on clinical exposure in a supportive and client‑focused environment. Responsibilities Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations. Participate in the creation of treatment plans and the use of diagnostics. Assist in dental services and observe surgical procedures. Assist or perform selected surgical procedures under supervision. Manage patients medically with follow‑up care. Communicate patient information to the medical team, support staff, and clients. Externships typically last between two and eight weeks, scheduled to align with the student's and hospital's calendars. Eligibility Externships at McClintock Animal Care Center are designed for third‑ and fourth‑year veterinary students. Students in their clinical portion of education who meet eligibility requirements may receive a travel and living‑expense stipend.
