MSK is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, who go on to pursue our mission at MSK and around the globe.STAFF SUPERVISIONTime: 50%• Interviews candidates to elicit their relevant skills and experience in accordance with Center and legal guidelines.• Assesses potential applicants utilizing position requirements and provides input into the selection of applicants.• Orient staff using the Departmental Orientation Checklist (includes departmental overview, job responsibilities, safety guidelines, and departmental policies and procedures); obtains employee signature and date for each category covered to ensure mutual understanding.• Staff in-service training; explains and demonstrates use of equipment and supplies as well as proper sequencing of activities; refers to appropriate resources and operations manuals (e.g., Department Policy and Procedures Manual). Determines level of understanding and skill acquisition by having trainee demonstrate points covered; monitors trainee performance on a daily basis and provides remediation as needed.• Provides feedback to managers on trainee progress on a weekly basis and makes recommendations to resolve any problems.• Completes Initial Competency Assessment Form and Competency Assessment section of Orientation Checklist for each employee within six month initial employment period, verifying that each employee has been provided orientation and meets the competencies required for the job.• Maintains and uses knowledge of seven step cleaning, waste handling, standard precautions, project work, periodic maintenance, chemical knowledge, safety/infection control/ care for environment, equipment supply/storeroom to give instruction to employees; is available for consultation at all times (e.g., if an employee has a question about a chemical or which of the seven steps apply to a specific area).• Provides ongoing individual feedback to staff on performance strengths and areas for improvement; recognizes accomplishments, improvements in performance and innovative ideas through verbal praise.• Documents performance issue discussions with staff. Utilizes the Center’s Corrective Action Process when needed, as approved by the managers of Environmental Services.• Conducts performance appraisal process per department and Center guidelines within established time frames. Documents each employee’s performance based on job description. Uses examples to demonstrate areas of strength and weaknesses. Recommends an employee development plan to include realistic objectives for the coming year.• Seeks input from staff regarding operational and staff management opportunities for improvement. Follows up on recommendations as appropriate.• Maintains employees’ departmental files following the center’s guidelines.OPERATIONSTime: 30%• Prepares staff schedules and dispatch sheets; resolves routine staffing and scheduling problems; assigns break and meal times.• Prioritizes activities (including daily tasks and special requests) and assigns work to meet workload requirements.• Anticipates and responds to special/emergency requests and notifies manager as soon as possible (e.g., rearranges work load to give priority to emergency/special requests, makes equipment/personnel available for special/complex procedures).• Assigns routine activities fairly, ensuring that all staff have balanced assignments in terms of time and effort.• Develops, revises and submits for approval to manager staff assignment schedules.• Approves vacations and all time off following departmental policy and procedures in consideration of department operational needs and employee requests to ensure adequate coverage at all times.• Identifies needs for staff coverage within established timeframes and submit request for overtime or temporary staff to manager following departmental policies and procedures.• Ensures that all maintenance and cleaning work is completed following policy and procedures and/or manufacturers’ guidelines.• Ensures that all work is completed within specifications and within time frames requested by client; informs client if work cannot be completed and supplies reason (e.g., request not received with enough lead time, Center priorities).• Communicates necessary information such as incomplete work, unresolved problems to supervisors and managers of other shifts to ensure smooth transition.• Identifies issues and trends requiring action or further review and makes suggestions to managers (e.g., work flow issues).• Prepares incident reports documenting accidents per Center and departmental guidelines.• Ensures an adequate amount of supplies are available to staff to perform their assigned tasks by notifying the business management office of the type and quantities of supplies needed based on established par levels• Secures and distributes supplies to staff in their assigned areas when supplies are not available in their assigned janitorial closet.• Periodic driving may be required for the roleQUALITY ASSURANCE/REGULATORY COMPLIANCETime: 10%• Monitors and enforces compliance to departmental standards and regulatory requirements.• Conducts daily inspections of areas of responsibility to ensure compliance with Quality Assurance objectives.• Completes daily Quality Assurance inspection forms; identifies deficiencies and follows-up immediately to ensure correction of problem. Documents problem resolution when completed.• Monitors staff compliance with regulatory requirements and policy and procedures (e.g. Employee Health and Wellness Services requirements, HIPAA training, Departmental Policies and Procedures, etc.) and provides timely feedback to staff regarding compliance status.• Provides necessary means to staff to ensure staff compliance (e.g. information, training, access to computer, etc.), and take appropriate corrective action when staff remains non compliant.PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTTime: 10%• Participates and/or assist in the implementation of Performance Improvement Initiatives.• Educates new and existing staff on the Quality Assurance Programs and Performance Improvement Initiatives.• Identifies opportunity for system and process improvements and communicate proposal for improvement to Manager and/or Director.• Participates in testing and piloting of performance improvement solutions necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of solutions prior to full implementation.• Provides recommendations and communicates to appropriate performance improvement leaders, teams and committees.• Learns continuous improvement methodologies and philosophies.• Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in Environmental Services.• Develops and implements an individual developmental plan.Pay Range: $69,400.00 - $107,600.00FSLA Status: ExemptClosing :At MSK, we believe in fair, competitive pay that reflects your job, experience, and skills.MSK is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer committed to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of recruiting and employment.
