Patient Care Technician- Postpartum

Position Responsibilities

Maintains a safe environment. Adheres to the Infant Security and Abduction Policy.

Assists nurses with transportation and other duties related to patient care.

Cross trains as unit secretary; covers front desk when needed, answers patient call system, telephones, monitors infant security.

Discontinues foley catheters and med locks as directed by RN.

Assists in preparation of the unit and patient rooms for receiving admissions, transfer and post-operative patients.

Uses proper body mechanics when positioning, lifting, turning and ambulating patients.

Reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of the patient to the nurse in a timely manner.

Demonstrates the ability to provide safe care to patients who are: Newborn, Adolescent, Adult.

Accurately takes vital signs and records in patient record promptly.

Distributes water, appropriately records correct intake and output when indicated within shift.

Makes frequent patient rounds at least every two hours.

Provides patient care as directed by licensed nurse to include but not limited to: enemas, sitz bath, blood glucose monitoring and simple dressing changes.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

License/Registration/Certification:

State of Florida Nursing Assistant Certification preferred; CPR Certification required.

Education:

High School Diploma preferred

Experience:

One year experience preferred
