Limited Permit (LP) Respiratory Therapist - PRN

General Summary Provides respiratory care to patients as assigned and given on a physician's order for both in-house and out-patient care. Education, Licensure, Registration And Experience Graduate of or currently enrolled student of an approved school of Respiratory Care. Must possess current Limited Permit License in the State of Ohio. CPR certification required. BLS is expected at renewal. ACLS, NRP within 6 months of hire. Essential Functions Responsible for safe and effective administration of prescribed medications, knowing their indications and contraindications. Knows and follows the indications and contraindications, the policy and procedures in administering therapeutic modalities including IPPB, IS, HHN, MDI, DPI, ETC. Sets up and monitors oxygen administration, and sets up oxygen cylinders ensuring proper usage and safety measures. Performs arterial punctures using radial, brachial, and femoral sites independently and draws arterial lines for blood gas analysis. Acts as a member of the Code Blue and "Rapid Response Team" responding to arrest situations; may perform CPR and emergency ventilation as certified. Performs patient assessment, develops care plans for implementation, and obtains Registered Therapist approval. Performs all aspects of artificial airway care, including deep blind tracheal suctioning. Conducts daily and weekly preventative maintenance, calibration, and quality assurance of ABG analyzers. Familiar with measuring devices such as pulse oximeter, Wrights respirometer, oxygen blenders, oxygen analyzers, and peak flow meter. Responsible for setup, safety check, monitoring, and troubleshooting of mechanical ventilators. Familiar with CPAP/BIPAP setup and administration. Maintains accurate and legible records, documenting clinical notes in patient charts. Participates in reporting patient progress and prioritizing patient condition to the next shift. Properly documents in department records, participates in staff meetings, and attends lectures, conferences, and seminars. Attends all required safety training programs and explains responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, infection control, and specific job hazards. Follows hospital exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Demonstrates respect for the dignity of patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees, ensuring a professional, courteous environment. Promotes effective working relations and collaborates with departmental teams to meet goals and objectives. Communicates changes in patient condition or treatment to patients, physicians, families, staff, and other departments, providing concise, factual, organized verbal reports for all patients treated during the shift. Participates in clinical rounds with the Medical Director, anesthesia, ordering physicians, and department managers as required. Provides guidance to personnel when requested and may perform other related duties as directed. Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding to ensure effective two-way communication. Completes required department specific education and training programs and explains responsibilities related to department safety and job hazards.
