The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary The OB/GYN Nurse Manager will be responsible for the overall assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in the outpatient practices while ensuring the efficiency and stability of the clinical operations in assigned areas, inclusive of quality, access, and value. Collaborates with clinical leadership to ensure department strategic goals are achieved. Leads the practices in a manner that delivers an exceptional patient experience that contributes to positive health outcomes for patients and a work culture of kindness, inclusion, integrity, accountability, and excellence. Responsibilities Essential Duties Responsible for the overall planning process for clinical management at OB/GYN practice sites. Develops an effective plan for delivery of nursing care and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) CMA care within the assigned areas of responsibility. Collaborate with clinicians, practice managers, and clinical coordinators in establishing, implementing, and maintaining patient care and quality service standards for outpatient OB/GYN practices in accordance with American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) outpatient practice guidelines and industry best practices. Develop consistent patient care systems and processes across multiple facilities. Implement simulations and drills. Collaborate with practice managers, vendors, and other departments for appropriate supplies and equipment. Ensure standardization of monitoring equipment, maintenance, supplies, and usage. Oversee all laboratory operations (e.g. venipuncture, collection/prep of specimens), coordinate tracking system for lab results and medications. Serve as a liaison to all OB/GYN divisions and demonstrate effective teambuilding and problem-solving strategies. Develop long-term unit staffing schedules and ensure adequate daily coverage in accordance with established staffing needs. Anticipate and fulfill patient, visitor, provider, and colleague needs within scope of practice/training/education. Execute nursing interventions by collaborating with the care team and following the standards of care established by department leadership. Assume responsibility and accountability for effectively managing nursing care of individual patients. Document nursing assessment and interventions to reflect comprehensive and integrated approach to patient care. Provide care that is safe, ethical, patient- and family-centered, culturally congruent and evidence-based. Lead routine clinical coordinator meetings to align clinical coordinators and clinical staff with organizational strategy, new initiatives, programs, and policies. Utilize meetings to develop new paths, procedures, and approaches to maximize opportunities for performance and process improvement. Provide coverage at the practice sites as needed. Utilize tracking system that ensures adherence to regular and ongoing compliance, education, and training requirements of the practices. Create and maintain master educational roster, track enrollment, attendance and send reminders to staff to ensure compliance. Ensure corrective action is taken for non-compliant staff as needed. Research and suggest new learning opportunities to enhance the performance of the unit. Participate as a member of the healthcare team and various interdisciplinary committees to improve patient care and meet patient needs. Create the daily, weekly, and/or monthly assignment list to ensure adequate clinical coverage and provider support in the practices. Participate in departmental and hospital-based activities and special projects. Oversee all laboratory operations, e.g. venipuncture, collection/prep of specimens, coordinate tracking system for lab results, and medications. Collaborate with Medical Directors, Division Chiefs, and Program Directors to standardize and optimize clinical documentation by staff and providers in EPIC (including history entry, chart prep, note templates, smart phrases, etc.) Act as point of contact for staff and providers with EPIC-related questions and prepare, submit, and track optimization requests related to end-user workflows and documentation. Ensure standardization across the department by working with Divisional nurses to implement Departmental and Faculty Practice Organization (FPO) policies and procedures across all practices. Other duties as assigned appropriate to scope, education, and/or training. People Directly supervise clinical staff (Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Medical Assistants). Participate in recruitment of clinical staff. Manage and mentor nurses to onboard and train clinical staff. Ensure staff productivity benchmarks and quality measures are achieved. Develop remediation plans as needed. Evaluate staff performance and competencies, approaching the performance review process constructively and conduct it in accordance with Human Resources and departmental guidelines and procedures. Offer continuing guidance and assistance to employees on work activities, procedures, competency development and performance-related issues as appropriate. Ensure leadership is kept aware of performance of employees on an ongoing basis. Address any performance-related issues promptly. Standardize and streamline training and onboarding processes for outpatient clinical staff. Promote staff professionalism and performance with coaching, training and feedback. Mentor others in individual and team accountability, modeling behavior and demonstrating best practices/techniques. Demonstrate self-development and keep current on a variety of clinical management and healthcare topics. Create and disseminate educational materials and conduct ad hoc education sessions / on-site training for staff and clinicians. Compliance Oversee and document the implementation and compliance with institutional policies, procedures, programs, protocols, and systems to provide an efficient and accurate patient encounter which improves the practices’ effectiveness and the quality of patient outcomes. Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, departmental, and organization policies and procedures for all staff. Keep current on all organizational, regulatory compliance and patient privacy trainings and policies (e.g. infection control, public safety, EH&S, HIPAA, OSHA, etc.) and successfully complete all required trainings. Ensure compliance for a safe and secure work environment at all practices by following all OSHA, EH&S, and public safety policies and guidelines. Track and monitor risk management incidents (e.g. medication errors and patient safety issues). Monitor incident data for trends and implement corrective action plans in conjunction with the quality & patient safety team. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality according to HIPAA requirements at all times. Ensure that Medical Center and Department policies and procedures are followed. Oversee compliance with appropriate competencies for clinical staff and maintain documentation accurately reflecting the completion of each competency. Implement simulations and drills. Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or equivalent of education and experience. A minimum of 4 years of related experience. Current and unrestricted New York State RN license. ACLS certified. Must have excellent clinical skills in a high-volume, high-pressure environment. Candidate must demonstrate strong customer service orientation and the ability to deliver consistent exceptional service while demonstrating tact, respect, and sensitivity. Candidate must be organized and be able to manage a demanding workload and moderately complex cases in an accurate and timely manner. Demonstrated advanced skills in problem assessment and resolution and collaborative problem solving in complex and interdisciplinary settings including advanced proficiency in nursing competencies. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. This position requires the ability to interact positively, constructively and effectively with professional staff, providers, and organizational stakeholders. Must be able to create and deliver high-level communication presentations for senior leadership and other organizational stakeholders. Ability to lead and mentor team through new and changing situations. Demonstrate a professional and compassionate manner while conveying a positive image of the practice. Ability to work independently and follow-through and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to work collaboratively with a culturally diverse staff and patient/family population demonstrating tact and sensitivity in stressful situations. Strong proficiency of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Sharepoint) or similar software is required and an ability and willingness to learn new systems and programs. Must be a motivated individual with a positive mindset and exceptional work ethic. Must successfully complete systems training requirements. Ability to work indoors in an environmentally-controlled environment with a degree of dust, noise, odors, etc. without undue discomfort. Ability to perform sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing for long periods of time. Travel between clinical sites is required. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. Incumbent is expected to perform/assist in emergency care and/or first aid as needed. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree is preferred. OB/GYN practice experience preferred. Familiarity with EPIC preferred.
