Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Branch Manager for the Industry & Carbon Management Branch, the supervisor serves as the highest-level specialist and performs highly complex technical work relating to public utilities along with a variety of supervisory, program planning, evaluation, and policy analysis activities including technical review and feedback to staff on written work products. The Supervisor leads a multi-disciplinary team working on a variety of technical and analytical tasks related to energy storage and related storage integration technologies, and works to provide a positive and collaborative working environment for the team. The Supervisor also confers with and assists Division and Commission Leadership on Division policies and objectives and coordinates the work of the unit with other sections of the Division on a broad spectrum of subject areas within the unit’s portfolio. In addition, the Supervisor represents and supports the Division and California Energy Commission (CEC) in meetings, briefings, conferences, and workshops; engages other agencies, the Legislature, companies, research organizations, communities, and other contributors; and prepares correspondence and reports. The Energy Storage & Integration Unit focuses on technology research, development, and deployment for energy storage and related storage integration technologies – including communications and controls – that support the transmission and distribution grid and deliver customer and community benefits. The Unit implements the CEC Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES) Program ( which leads the world in investing in a portfolio of non-lithium LDES demonstration projects. This program is advancing LDES technologies that will help California maintain a reliable electric system as it continues to host a greater share of intermittent electric generation assets. The Energy Research & Development Division deploys over $200 million annually to advance new scientific approaches and technology innovations to meet the state’s clean energy and climate change policies. Working Conditions

The CEC supports a hybrid workplace model with office-based and remote-centered workers. Limited in-person attendance and occasional travel may be required based on the needs of the division. Regular and consistent attendance is essential to successful performance. This position is remote-centered, which means the incumbent works 50 percent or more of their time from an alternate work location. Teleworking is only available for employees who reside in California. You must be located in California and provide your in-state address prior to your start date.
