Job Area Freight Forwarding Division Solutions Job Posting Title Operation Manager Time Type: Full Time Position Summary Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day site operations, including supervision of warehousing, receiving and shipping, planning inbound/outbound volume, customer communication, space utilization, equipment management, hiring and training, labor planning, performance appraisals, and issue resolution. As part of the DSV team, associates are expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality and to comply with all corporate and site‑specific policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Ensures development of systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products in a safe and profitable manner in accordance with company policies, guidelines, and procedures. Manages operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals and complies with client SLA terms. Drives continuous improvement and proposes cost‑saving measures. Meets client‑specified KPIs and complies with quality system requirements. Employs sound communication and motivational techniques, creates fair supervision programs, counsels, and disciplines team members as needed. Collaborates with Human Resources for hiring, training, professional development, and performance evaluation. Delivers results by leveraging the skills of the right people at the right time. Informs senior management and client representatives of critical operational issues. Plans daily work schedule from work orders, arrival notices, and customer instructions; assigns duties to warehouse staff. Reorganizes warehouse space and adjusts supplies, equipment or staffing based on volume demands. Ensures effective training to team members by qualified instructors and adherence to SOPs. Assesses trainee progress to determine new‑hire performance and cultural fit. Maintains high motivation levels to provide customer satisfaction. Provides ongoing growth and development opportunities for team members. Supports adherence to SOPs and conducts routine staff meetings. Management Information Systems Ensures team members are trained and efficient in required systems, including WMS, to meet objectives. Purchases necessary computer software and hardware in accordance with Corporate IT policies. Makes knowledge of hardware and software changes. Develops proficiency in client systems. Customer Management Maintains high level customer service standards for all functions. Provides required operational and administrative support to client accounts. Maintains contact with all functions and responds promptly to requests. Attend or lead meetings with key customers to discuss issues. Coordinates supplier/customer visits to the site. Promotes positive client relationships through excellent service. Budgeting / Financials Supports development of an annual operating budget. Creates and manages controls to ensure service levels and operational goals are met within cost, revenue, and profit parameters. Assists with budgeting and pricing compliance with contract guidelines. Equipment & Facilities Manages programs for maintaining sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety, and equipment including MHE. Ensures MHE training for team members. Stays informed of new technology and recommends applicable upgrades. Safety Achieves safety goals and establishes a proactive safety culture. Audits warehouse for safety, security, and quality compliance. Ensures federal, provincial, or statutory health and safety requirements are met. Other Duties Work overtime as business requires, whether mandatory or voluntary. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Manages warehouse operations supervisors and support staff. Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. 7 years of experience in logistics, distribution, or related environment. 5 years of supervisory experience. Must be able to work in unregulated temperatures within the warehouse during warmer and colder months (mild to moderate). Computer Skills Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Proficient in applicable WMS systems. Language Skills Business communication proficiency at all levels. Other Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness. Good organizational and personnel skills. Good written and oral communication. Good leadership, supervision, and planning skills. Able to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends, as required. Participates in cross‑training metrics activities for knowledge improvement. Actual compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
