Job Description

The Registered Nurse in the Psychiatric Emergency Room is responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients experiencing mental health emergencies. This position involves conducting thorough intake assessments, planning and administering nursing care, and collaborating with psychiatrists and behavioral health staff to implement effective treatment plans.

Job Duties

• Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and their relatives to collect comprehensive case histories.
• Plan and provide direct nursing care for patients in a psychiatric emergency setting.
• Make nursing diagnoses based on the medical and emotional statuses of patients and recommend appropriate treatment options.
• Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health professionals to create tailored treatment plans for clients.
• Administer psychotropic medications and monitor patient reactions and side effects.
• Arrange for additional medical attention when required.
• Support clients in understanding the nature of their emotional disturbances and foster acceptance of their treatment needs.
• Maintain a safe and secure environment for both patients and staff.
• Assess patients for pain and ensure effective pain management interventions are implemented.
• Document all patient information accurately in medical records and adhere to physician's orders.
• Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
• Maintain accurate records of patient treatment, immunizations, and laboratory results according to established medical practices.
• Perform administrative tasks including filing, answering phones, typing, and entering progress notes into the computer system.
• Provide excellent service to patients and the public by responding to requests for assistance or making appropriate referrals.

Requirements

• Valid Registered Nurse license in New York.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Telemetry experience is preferred.
• A minimum of two years of relevant nursing experience is required.

Schedule

This position involves a weekend-blocked schedule with rotational day and night shifts. Flexibility for holiday assignments is expected.
