Senior Accountant

Built on meritocracy, our unique company culture rewards self-starters and those who are committed to doing what is best for our customers.Brown & Brown's Risk Solutions Team, formerly Beecher Carlson, is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Captive practice.As a Senior Accountant with our Captive team, you will manage the day-to-day accounting and financial activities of a portfolio of captive insurance companies, acting as focal contact person with senior management and our clients, with an opportunity to develop strategic and consulting skills. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Captive Accounting & Financial ReportingPerform all accounting activities for assigned captive insurance entities, including general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and customized financial and management reports.Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statement packages in accordance with GAAP, SAP, and modified GAAP, as applicable.Monitor cash activity, investment activity, and intercompany transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.Prepare budgets, forecasts, and ad hoc financial analyses to support client and internal reporting needs.Regulatory & Compliance ManagementPrepare and file regulatory submissions, including premium tax returns, NAIC Blank Forms, and other domicile-specific filings for captive insurance companies and Risk Retention Groups.Serve as the primary accounting contact for regulatory matters across onshore and offshore domiciles, which may include Vermont, Hawaii, District of Columbia, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, and other U.S. and international jurisdictions.Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements, accounting standards, and compliance obligations impacting captive clients.Audit & Service Provider CoordinationLead audit preparation and substantive review activities, including drafting and reviewing audit schedules, financial statements, and supporting documentation to obtain clean audit opinions.Coordinate and communicate with external service providers, including auditors, actuaries, tax advisors, regulators, investment managers, and bankers, ensuring timely and accurate information exchange.Provide guidance on accounting developments, investment regulations, and compliance considerations affecting captive programs.Client Engagement & Advisory SupportAct as a trusted advisor and primary accounting contact for assigned captive clients, including participation in client, shareholder, and Board of Director meetings as needed.Present financial results and explain complex accounting matters in a clear, professional manner to non-technical audiences.Support client retention through consistent service delivery, responsiveness, and high-quality financial reporting.Other client service & support activities at the direction of management.Systems & Process ManagementUtilize multiple accounting and reporting systems, including Acumatica, MAS 500, BizNet, Velixo, and Wings, to prepare and deliver accurate financial information.Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficiencies while maintaining compliance and data integrity.Support internal initiatives related to system enhancements, documentation standards, and process consistency across the Captive Practice.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within captive insurance, insurance, or financial services.Strong knowledge of GAAP and insurance accounting principles.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines with minimal supervision.Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.Excellent interpersonal, communication, and client service skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and enterprise accounting systems.Preferred:CPA designationExperience with captive insurance companies and multiple regulatory domiciles.Pay Range100000 - 120000 AnnualThe pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.Teammate Benefits & Total Well-BeingWe go beyond standard benefits, focusing on the total well-being of our teammates, including:Health Benefits: Medical/Rx, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Disability InsuranceFinancial Benefits: ESPP; 401k; Student Loan Assistance; Tuition ReimbursementMental Health & Wellness: Free Mental Health & Enhanced Advocacy ServicesBeyond Benefits: Paid Time Off, Holidays, Preferred Partner Discounts and more.Not reflective of all benefits.
