Journeyman Lineman & Troubleman - Metro Region (Atlanta Area)

Journeyman Lineman and Troublemen – Metro Region (Atlanta Area) Placement at a headquarters will be based on availability of openings and if you are in a commutable distance of the headquarters. Candidate must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the assignment location in order to meet “call out” requirements. If a candidate does not currently live within this area, they must be willing to immediately relocate. Availability Available during emergencies, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. At least 50% of the time for emergency call‑out. Available for travel outside the state for storm emergencies. Job Summary Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Pole climbing up to 60 feet. Working in an overhead position while on the pole. Pulling and splicing wires. Installing electrical service (pole‑to‑pole or pole‑to‑service point). Operating and driving company trucks, including bucket trucks. Operating heavy equipment (backhoe or similar). Working outdoors in adverse conditions day and night. Operating electrical systems – transmission, substation and distribution switching. Writing switching orders. Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems. Troubleshooting. After‑hours first responder. Job Requirements Experience and Education Minimum 5 years of experience in the electric utility industry and 3 years as a journeyman lineman working with voltages above 600 V. Overhead distribution experience up to 25 kV required. Underground distribution experience up to 25 kV preferred. Previous experience on the Georgia Power system highly preferred. Leadership experience preferred. Must successfully complete the company’s pre‑employment New Journeyman Evaluation. Familiar with work involving energized conductors. Construction and maintenance line work desired. Familiar with heavy equipment related to line work skill sets. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of hand tools. Experience using hydraulic and battery tools. Experience with material‑handling bucket trucks. Knowledge of when and how to apply proper cover‑up in energized situations. Proficient climber up to 60 feet. Knowledge of circuit protection. Ability to take instructions and translate into actions. Familiarity with industry‑standard safe work practices. Pre‑employment testing may be required. Ability to quickly learn Georgia Power work practices and work rules. Other Requirements Must be available for scheduled or emergency call‑out, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be able to travel outside the state for storm restoration. Must hold a valid driver’s license; Class A CDL required. Must meet a maximum weight limit of 270 lb. fully clothed (incl. hard hat and work boots). Customer‑oriented, team player, willing to learn new skills, motivated, resourceful, excellent driving skills, proactive, and performs work following safety standards and procedures. Candidates are responsible for all expenses related to traveling for testing, interview(s), etc., related to pre‑employment requirements. A thorough background check and DOT drug screen will be conducted prior to employment. A Pre‑Employment (DOT) physical exam approved by the company physician is required. Vehicle Requirements At least one year of verifiable driving experience with a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle. No revocation of driving privileges within 36 months, no convictions of major traffic violations within 12 months, and no pending charges at application.
