Position Description Under the supervision of the SELPA Director or designee, the BCBA provides consultative and direct Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) support to staff and programs across the District. This position is responsible for supervising and facilitating behavioral programs and services for students aged 0 to 22. This includes oversight of special education behavioral staff, development and implementation of behavioral intervention programs, compliance with federal and state regulations, and coordination with internal and external agencies. Examples of Duties/Responsibilities Behavioral Intervention and Support: Provides technical assistance, training, coaching, resources, and shadowing of site based behavior support and other educational staff in the fundamentals of ABA and the effective implementation of behavior programs. Demonstrates and trains staff in the use of behavior intervention techniques and instructional strategies designed to assist students in learning replacement behaviors and generalizing skills across settings. Provides training in reactive strategies and assists with crisis response, if needed. Provides technical assistance and oversight of trainees pursuing Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCABA), or Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification requiring ongoing fieldwork hours supervision. Evaluate student behavioral data and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs). Design and monitor Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs for students requiring Tier III intervention. Develop and implement trauma-informed, evidence based behavioral supports aligned with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Assist with crisis management and de escalation, including physical intervention/restraint. Support classroom teams with behavior strategies and replacement behavior training. Program Supervision and Implementation: Provide ongoing supervision and training to Behavior Analysts, Behavior Support Specialists, Intensive Behavior Interventionists (IBls). Supervise individual case progress for compliance, quality control, and identify opportunities for transition services to a less restrictive setting as appropriate. Advise and support administrative staff and education teams regarding appropriate referrals for Behavior services including Intensive Behavior Intervention services. Collaboration and Consultation: Serve as liaison with District and outside agency partners to ensure continuity of care and behavior support. Participate in IEP meetings and provide written reports to IEP teams and administrators. Collaborate with principals, Child Welfare and Attendance Specialists, and instructional leaders on student discipline and behavior plans. Consult and collaborate on appropriate IEP goals and supports. Training, Coaching, and Professional Development: Provide in service training to parents, community agencies, student groups and educational staff members, addressing the promotion of positive behavior principles, crisis prevention intervention (CPI), and proactive plans to address challenging behavior(s) related to educational success. Coach and shadow staff to build site based capacity in behavior management and intervention fidelity. Provide ongoing supervision for designated staff. Data Monitoring and Reporting: Guide the use of data systems for behavioral progress monitoring and program evaluation. Review and support the collection of behavior data by school sites; ensure compliance with MediCal and other reporting requirements. Use data to inform program improvements and provide reports to district and SELPA leadership. Minimum Qualifications Basic techniques and methods of effective instruction with students. Special characteristics of students with autism. Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) training. Discrete Trial Training (DTT) (desirable). Principles and techniques of discipline and behavior modification. Recordkeeping and report preparation techniques. Basic concepts of child growth and development of children. Personal hygiene practices and procedures. Safety practices and procedures. Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Ability to: Develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with physically disabled and exceptional students, their teachers, and parents. Understand the needs of exceptional students. Physically lift and handle students in caring for their personal needs, i.e. toileting, aiding with bladder and bowel apparatus, administering to seizures, removing and replacing braces, etc. Exercise patience and tact in dealing with students and staff. Understand and carry out oral and written instruction. Supervise students in the classroom and out of doors. Provide one to one Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) including Discrete Trial Training (DTT) to designated students in the community or classroom. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Monitor and evaluate student progress. Work independently with minimal direction. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information. Demonstrate problem solving skills and determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines. Accept change positively and support new ideas and methodologies. Maintain consistent, regular, and punctual attendance. Work effectively as a member of a team. Speak Spanish. (desirable) Perform general clerical tasks. Education and Experience Any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described is qualifying; MA Degree. Possession of current BCBA certification issued by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board and successful experience as a Behavior Analyst required. Training in behavior intervention strategies, and experience working with students with disabilities in a classroom setting. Certification by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) in non violent crisis interventions, first aid, and CPR training preferred. License Valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate. California Driver’s License. Working Conditions Environment School campuses within District, vocational and instructional settings, within community, school bus. Outdoor environment; drive a District or personal vehicle to conduct work, visit school sites, travel to other organizations and companies, meetings, and workshops. Physical Abilities Physically manipulating students to move students in and out of wheelchairs. Adequate visual acuity with or without correction to monitor students in all instructional settings both on and off the school campus. Adequate hearing acuity and speaking ability to exchange information and provide assistance to students. Bending at the waist for prolonged periods of time. Walking and standing for extended periods of time. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate other adaptive equipment and classroom instructional materials. Gripping and grasping. Pushing and pulling. Reaching overhead, above shoulders, and horizontally. Lifting, squatting, kneeling, twisting. Ability to apply appropriate techniques to mitigate the threat of a student harming self or others (may involve evading, blocking, and restraining). Hazards Exposure to bodily fluids and waste materials. Exposure to cleaning products and disinfectants.
