The Patient Access Supervisor has responsibility of the operations and functions of the Patient Access areas. Responsible for Patient Access staff and completion of admission, registration and pre-registration functions to include insurance verification for PHS. Responsible for monitoring productivity, compliance and staffing for multiple registration points

Responsibilities:

• Selects and assigns department staff.
• Ensures new hires and staff are appropriate trained to perform the duties assigned.
• Coaches staff as needed to meet quality and duties assigned.
• Initiates coaching, corrective action and performance improvement plans for staff for attendance, productivity and quality opportunities.
• Ensures established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards are met and followed by staff under their leadership.
• Reviews Patient Access operations to ensure compliance with JCAHO, CMS, EMTALA, HIPAA, and other state or federal guidelines
• Works with Patient Access Manager in monitoring unit productivity to identify areas of inconsistency and to optimize utilization of staff resources.
• Assists in establishing productivity standards and evaluating staffing requirements (both temporary and permanent) based on volumes.
• Ensures department is meeting OT and productivity standards in line with the current budget and patient volumes.
• Ensures units follow Situation Response Guidelines. Ensures appropriate quality standards are maintained and appropriate on-line documentation is entered for every account activity to ensure thorough communication.
• Works within established guidelines to meet the needs of the patients and clinical staff during downtime, both scheduled and unscheduled.
• Assists Patient Access staff with complaints and process opportunities encountered by patients, physicians and/or other staff.
• Works established work queues and billing reports to ensure accounts are cleared for billing. Monitors employee work queues to ensure completion and compliance.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma, prefer some college
• 2 years of experience in related field required; with 1 year in a Supervisory capacity preferred.
• Critical thinking and attention to detail.
• Effectively interact with customers to understand their needs and explain data.
• Microsoft Office.
• Organizational Skills.
• Deal with all levels of staff and management within the organization, board members, as well as the public, under highly stressful conditions.
• Communicate effectively in person and via telephone with members, employer groups, brokers, physicians, and physician office staff using strong dialogue and customer service competencies.
• Work under limited supervision, self-manage work time and projects, resolve issues with minimal assistance.
