Assistant Safety Manager

Sitemetric is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Safety Manager to support Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) operations for Oracle's construction activities at the QTS SLC1 Campus in Eagle Mountain, Utah. This position plays a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, supporting regulatory compliance, identifying and mitigating workplace hazards, and assisting project teams in achieving world-class safety performance. The Assistant Safety Manager serves as a visible field presence and works closely with project leadership, contractors, client representatives, and the Safety Manager to support safe project execution.

About the Role

The Assistant Safety Manager supports the Safety Manager in the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of site-specific Environmental Health & Safety programs. This field-based position assists with safety inspections, audits, training, incident investigations, hazard assessments, corrective action tracking, and workforce engagement initiatives. The ideal candidate is a safety professional who thrives in fast-paced construction environments, demonstrates strong leadership and communication skills, and is passionate about protecting people, reducing risk, and supporting operational excellence.

This position reports directly to the Safety Manager. Under the direction of the Safety Manager, the Assistant Safety Manager supports the implementation and execution of site safety programs, regulatory compliance initiatives, training activities, inspections, audits, and incident prevention efforts.This position collaborates closely with project leadership, field supervision, contractors, client representatives, and craft personnel to support overall project safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

• Support the implementation and execution of all site safety initiatives.
• Promote a proactive safety culture through field engagement, coaching, communication, and accountability.
• Assist project teams in identifying hazards and implementing effective controls.
• Serve as a safety resource for supervisors, contractors, and craft personnel.
• Build positive working relationships with project teams, contractors, client representatives, and workforce members.
• Support continuous improvement efforts through observation, engagement, and safety trend analysis.

Program Administration

• Assist with the implementation and maintenance of site-specific Environmental Health & Safety programs.
• Support compliance with OSHA regulations, state regulations, client safety requirements, and project-specific safety plans.
• Maintain required safety records, training documentation, permits, inspections, and corrective action logs.
• Assist with project mobilization activities, risk assessments, and safety planning efforts.
• Track safety observations and corrective actions through completion.
• Support preparation of reports and safety performance metrics for project leadership.

Field Safety Oversight

• Conduct daily site inspections, safety audits, and behavioral observations.
• Identify hazards and support development of corrective actions.
• Monitor compliance with project safety procedures, policies, permits, and work plans.
• Support oversight of high-risk activities including: Excavation and trenching, Fall protection, Electrical safety and LOTO, Crane and rigging operations, Scaffold systems, Hot work, Confined space entry, Critical lifts, Heavy equipment operations.
• Assist with contractor safety evaluations and field compliance verification.

Incident Prevention and Investigation

• Support investigations involving injuries, property damage, close calls, and safety concerns.
• Assist with root-cause analysis and development of corrective action plans.
• Track corrective actions to closure.
• Help identify incident trends and opportunities for prevention.
• Support emergency response planning and incident management activities.
• Assist in communicating lessons learned across project teams.

Training and Workforce Development

• Conduct and support new worker orientations and site onboarding programs.
• Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings, and safety stand-down events.
• Provide field-level coaching and mentoring to supervisors and craft personnel.
• Assist project teams with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and pre-task planning.
• Promote employee engagement through safety recognition and participation programs.
• Support training compliance tracking and workforce qualification verification.

Client and Contractor Coordination

• Participate in project coordination meetings, safety meetings, and planning sessions.
• Collaborate with general contractor safety leadership and project stakeholders.
• Support contractor compliance reviews and corrective action follow-up.
• Assist with maintaining professional relationships with regulatory agencies, clients, contractors, and trade partners.
• Represent Sitemetric in a professional manner while promoting client and project safety objectives.

Technology-Enabled Safety Responsibilities

Utilizing Sitemetric's workforce visibility and digital safety platform, the Assistant Safety Manager will:

• Conduct field inspections using the Sitemetric mobile application.
• Manage electronic inspections, audits, permits, observations, and corrective actions.
• Receive and respond to AI-enabled safety alerts and workforce compliance notifications.
• Verify OSHA 10/30 training credentials and workforce qualifications through smart badging technology.
• Track safety observations and corrective actions using digital workflows.
• Support incident investigations utilizing badge data and workforce visibility tools.
• Log orientation attendance, toolbox talks, and training participation through digital systems.
• Review safety dashboards and leading indicators to identify emerging risks.
• Assist with site access compliance and workforce accountability programs.
• Support continuous safety improvement through data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

Core qualifications include:

• Willingness to participate in pre-employment screening process (drug screen and background checks)
• Minimum 2-5 years of construction safety experience.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
• Current First Aid, AED, and CPR certification.
• Strong understanding of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926).
• Experience supporting commercial, industrial, mission-critical, manufacturing, or large-scale construction projects.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively engage with all levels of project personnel.
• Strong documentation and report-writing skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and digital safety management platforms.
• Ability to work independently while supporting multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Preferred

• Data center construction experience.
• Mission-critical facility experience.
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• CHST, ASP, CSP, or similar professional certification.
• OSHA 500 Trainer Certification.
• Experience working with large general contractors and hyperscale technology clients.

Physical & Travel Requirements

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in active construction environments.
• Frequent walking across large construction sites.
• Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated work areas.
• Ability to traverse uneven terrain and changing site conditions.
• Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds as needed.

Travel Requirements:

• Limited travel may be required for training, corporate meetings, and project support activities.
• Ability to maintain a consistent on-site presence throughout project duration.

Additional Information

The base pay for this position ranges from $110,000 - $125,000 per year. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience.
