Purchasing Agent

The Town of New Canaan is seeking applicants for the position of Purchasing Agent. Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Purchasing Agent is responsible for administering the Town of New Canaan’s purchasing and procurement functions in accordance with Town. 

The Purchasing Agent serves as the primary resource for Town departments on purchasing and procurement matters and works closely with department heads, Finance staff, Town officials, vendors, and contractors to ensure that purchases are conducted in a fair, competitive, transparent, efficient, and fiscally responsible manner. Essential job functions include administering the Town’s centralized purchasing and procurement process and providing guidance to departments regarding purchasing policies and procedures, reviewing requisitions and purchase requests for appropriate approvals, funding, documentation, and compliance with Town requirements, coordinating competitive purchasing, including informal quotations, formal bids, requests for proposals (RFPs), requests for qualifications (RFQs), and other procurement methods, assisting departments in developing specifications, scopes of work, bid documents, and procurement schedules, and coordinating bid advertisements, bid openings, evaluations, tabulations, and award documentation as well as other associated responsibilities.

This position works with the Chief Financial Officer, Town Attorney, department heads, and appropriate Town officials on procurement awards and contracts.

Minimum required qualifications include Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, finance, accounting, supply chain management, or a related field and three years of progressively responsible purchasing or procurement experience. Municipal or public-sector procurement experience is preferred. CPPB or CPPO is desired.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Salary range $107,924 - $116,223 dependent on qualifications and years of experience. Background investigation and pre-employment physical required.
