Job Description The Onboarding Specialist is an experienced registered nurse, who works with newly hired nurses through their clinical orientation to facilitate and evaluate learning. They will partner to foster safe, competent practice as well as strengthen confidence in the clinical arena while building and facilitating a trusting relationship with teammates, physicians, patients, and families. This role is part-time working 20 hours per week. Will do 2 days per week, 3 days the next and so on. This will be days but there may be some work after 8PM. Experience
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- Minimum 1 year pediatric/specialty experience
- Minimum 1 year training or orienting clinical staff
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Previous experience in Peritoneal dialysis preferred
- Experience in orienting different roles to clinical care (student, new graduate, experienced RN)
- Graduate from accredited school of nursing
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days of employment or upon start of clinical shift if working in the Emergency Department (ED)
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition Stabilization (PEARS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association as required by department
- Demonstrated competence in critical thinking, interpersonal, and technical skills

- Proficiency in using and navigating technology tools such as electronic medical record Microsoft Office Suite and Learning Management System

- Acts as a resource for accessing available resources (i.e., Vascular Access).
- Facilitates completion of the competency checklist.
- Serves a super user for various processes or new equipment.
- Acts as a resource and assists with the training of equipment, supplies, and instruments.
- Maintains competence to provide and/or assist with clinical care.
- Promotes safe patient care and bundle compliance as applicable.
- Demonstrates and facilitates critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Helps develop clinical judgement processes.
- Provides explanations or rationale for actions.
- Promotes learning by asking open-ended questions.
- Develops understanding of care priorities.
- Reviews patient assignment with new nurse to anticipate care needs and determine the plan for prioritizing patient care.
- Facilitates open communication between the new nurse and experienced nurse.
- Serves as a resource in recognizing and responding to a deteriorating patient.
- Debriefs with the new nurse and appropriate staff following challenging events (rapid response, codes, etc.).
- Facilitates provider communication by utilizing SBAR and escalation of care.
- Fosters learning opportunities for the new employee to participate in processes, routines, interactions, and interpersonal relationships.
- Individualizes the 'precepting' process.
- Adapts teaching style to meet new hire's needs.
- Coaches effective communication strategies.
- Encourages engagement with interdisciplinary teams in patient care.
- Interacts with new employee and others in a professional manner.
- Promotes open communication to encourage a healthy work environment.
- Promotes delegation.
- Provides side by side education to individuals or groups.
- Promotes cohesive behavior among team members; actively promotes relationships with self, staff, and family.
- Models Children's Service Excellence behaviors.
- Collaborates with new nurses, unit management and/or department educators to monitor employee's progress during orientation.
- Protects the safety of the patient/family and safeguards the well-being and safe learning environment of the new employee.

- Partners with unit leadership and new nurse to develop individualized developmental plan.
- Serves as an educational resource, specific to established clinical protocols and guidelines, for new nurses.
- Assists in designing, implementing, evaluating, and revising continuing education programs for new nurses as needed.
- Serves as a role model and provide the leadership needed to implement evidence-based practice.
- Supports and facilitates system/campus/unit-based projects or initiatives as needed.
- Facilitates department-based bootcamps, classes, and skills checks.
- Fosters collegial relationships between team members, other departments, and medical staff members.
- Supports and maintains a therapeutic and professional environment.
- Supports new hire.
- Demonstrates the ability to promote professional boundaries and build capacity in the preceptee by engaging health attitudes, thoughts, communication, and behaviors that build a healthy working environment.
