Assistant Project Manager (Commercial Construction)

Overview We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join the team in Richmond, VA. This role blends project coordination, estimating support, and ownership of smaller commercial projects, making it a strong next step for an APM or Project Engineer ready to grow into a Project Manager role. Responsibilities Support Project Managers with planning, scheduling, budgeting, and day-to-day project execution Assist with estimating, takeoffs, bid coordination, and subcontractor outreach Manage smaller projects independently from kickoff through closeout Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, owners, and internal stakeholders Track costs, change orders, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation Maintain accurate project records in Procore Attend project meetings and visit job sites as needed Help ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to quality standards Qualifications 2-5+ years of commercial construction experience as an APM, Project Engineer, or similar Exposure to both project management and estimating Strong understanding of construction documentation, schedules, budgets, and subcontractor coordination Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment Clear communication and strong organizational skills Self-starter mindset and comfort working on a smaller, team-oriented staff Preferred Qualifications Experience with a commercial general contractor Procore experience Project experience in the $500K-$5M range Background with ground-up, renovation, institutional, public-sector, or commercial work Interest in growing into a Project Manager position Benefits Performance-based bonus opportunity Healthcare benefits IRA match Clear path toward Project Manager growth Direct access to leadership and meaningful project ownership Exposure to larger and more complex commercial builds Trueline and its clients are unabashed equal-opportunity employers committed to a diverse workforce.
