Job Summary

We ar e seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Communication Desk Assistant to support operations within a utility transmission control center environment. This position serves as an important communication link between field personnel, Transmission Power System Coordinators, supervision, internal departments, and external partners.

The Communication Desk Assistant will provide routine and emergency communications, maintain outage and system-event records, assist with reporting, answer calls from field personnel entering and exiting substations or transmission rights-of-way, and perform administrative and clerical activities in support of control center operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Initiate and maintain communication with internal customers, including Transmission Maintenance Centers (TMCs), supervision, system operators, and other departments.

• Communicate with external customers and ITS partners during routine operations and system events.

• Provide timely information and communication to field personnel during routine and emergency conditions.

• Answer calls from field personnel entering and exiting substations and transmission line rights-of-way.

• Accurately enter field personnel information and operational activity into designated databases and systems.

• Assist Transmission Power System Coordinators with developing, reviewing, and correcting outage reports.

• Track system events involving transmission lines, substations, and associated equipment.

• Maintain accurate records of transmission system outages and events.

• Maintain operational logs, reports, records, and other control center documentation.

• Communicate relevant system-event information to appropriate internal and external stakeholders.

• Perform administrative and clerical duties as required to support GCC/control center operations.

• Follow established communication, documentation, safety, and operating procedures.

• Handle multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to make sound decisions and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a team.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications, including:

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft Word

  • Microsoft Outlook

  • Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Microsoft Access

• Ability to communicate professionally with field personnel, operations staff, supervision, and external partners.

• Ability to accurately document and communicate information during routine and emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree.

• Previous experience working in an electric utility or power industry environment.

• Field experience involving:

  • Electric power generation

  • Transmission operations or maintenance

  • Transmission line construction

  • Substation construction or maintenance

• Familiarity with electrical fundamentals.

• Knowledge of transmission or control center operations.

• Experience maintaining outage reports, operational logs, or system-event records.

• Previous experience in a dispatch, operations, communication desk, control center, or similar environment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal Communication Desk Assistant is organized, dependable, calm under pressure, and able to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders. The position is particularly well suited for someone with experience in utility operations, dispatch, control center support, field coordination, or administrative support within a technical environment.

Knowledge of electrical s ystems, transmission operations, or substation environments is beneficial but not required.
