Sales Development & Training (SD&T) is seeking a leader to transform, build, and shape how learning is designed and reaches sales teams across NF by leveraging modern learning design methods and tools, including the use of generative AI. This position leads the Design Team within NF Sales Development & Training and will have 5-7 direct reports. This leader will work very collaboratively with the Delivery leader and SD&T leadership to support sales skills uplift across Nationwide Financial. The leader will also have direct business unit face-offs to sales leaders of NF’s business including but not limited to Group Benefits, IID and SAM. Learning Experience Platform (LXP) Ownership: Own the Seismic Learning (LXP) transition and launch, and serve as the ongoing business owner for platform adoption, governance, and continuous optimization post-launch. Business Line Partnership: Serve as the dedicated Learning & Performance partner to NF business including but not limited Group Benefits, IID (Independent & Institutional Distribution), and Strategic Account Management (SAM) — leading needs assessment, program design, and delivery for these business lines. Innovative Learning Design: Drive innovative learning design approaches using available tools and technologies — including, but not limited to, generative AI — to efficiently scale learning content development and improve the learner experience. Sales Skills Uplift: Support sales skills uplift initiatives across supported business lines, partnering with the Delivery Team and business unit leaders to translate identified sales skill gaps into learning solutions. Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a team of Learning & Performance consultants/specialists delivering against the above scope, including creation and governance of design/branded facilitator guides, participant materials, job aids, and other learning assets. Learning Measurement: Knowledge of the Kirkpatrick Model (or other models) to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of training and learning programs will be a plus. FINRA Series 6 & 26 license required within 120 days of hire. This hybrid position is based in Columbus, OH. Candidates located near a Nationwide campus will collaborate in office 3 days per week. Current remote associates may also be considered. Job Description Key Responsibilities: Creates the strategic implementation, priorities, and initiatives for area of responsibility, ensuring consistency with the learning vision, business needs, company goals and strategies. Leads the coordination of training and learning activities. Provides assistance and guidance in the design of evaluation tools and methodologies and ensures evaluation takes place. Evaluates ongoing viability of learning initiatives. Directs resources to best meet strategic intent, business needs and corporate strategy. Creates design and development strategy to meet anticipated business needs based on learning department vision. Directs staff in the design and development of learning solutions and development of curriculum or leadership development strategies. Works across functional and organizational boundaries in the development and delivery of learning requirements. Partners and consults with executive leadership team to evaluate strategic and integrated business planning tools and to determine impact of learning strategies on organizational effectiveness and company results. Markets, educates and communicates with business partners and peers on resources, initiatives and curriculum. Ensures coordination and branding of all training and learning activities. Prepares and manages budget and resources necessary to drive and implement critical initiatives. Partners with business and Learning & Performance leaders across the enterprise to diagnose needs and identify strategic learning or related projects and recommend appropriate actions. Secures sponsors and may participate in projects by identifying trends, strategy or resources to impact the project or company. Manages associates, including performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement and disciplinary actions. May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Reporting Relationships: Reports to Associate Vice President or Vice President. Leads a team of four or more Learning & Performance professionals. Typical Skills and Experiences: Education: Undergraduate degree preferred with emphasis in business, education, psychology or related subject area desired Advanced studies in instructional technology, management, organization development, or the behavioral sciences leading to a master’s or doctorate degree preferred. License/Certification/Designation: Professional certification, such as the Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), strongly preferred. In some business units, there may be additional regulatory requirements for specific certifications, e.g., FINRA series in Nationwide Financial or progress toward technical designation, such as CPCU or equivalent designation. Associates must acquire all required federal and/or state licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit. Additional licenses/registrations may be required when new products and services are implemented. If an associate fails to acquire required licenses/registrations within the designated time period, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position. Experience: Typically, ten or more years of demonstrated experience in learning technologies technical and professional instructional design. Five years of management experience. Strong facilitation and change management experience required. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of behavioral and organization development concepts. Must have broad technical expertise in analysis, design, development and implementation of learning solutions. Strong planning, organizing, leading and process management knowledge required. Knowledge of current policies, practices and trends affecting the business and organization. Able to present and articulate ideas and plans, and build organizational momentum behind strategies. Strong organizational savvy, relationship building skills and consulting ability. Ability to set work priorities and effectively use resources to evaluate and apply problem solving methodology to make sound decisions. Strong leadership, team development and motivation skills required. Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
