Associate, Industrial Practice (Metals & Mining)

Overview Spencer Stuart is seeking to recruit an Associate for the Industrial Practice. The Associate will help solve CEO and other C‑level executive searches, focusing on Metals & Mining, and work closely with a global search team. Key Relationships Reports to: Industrial Practice Leader Consultants (on assignment basis) Associate Practice Leader Market Leader Analysts, Associates, Senior Associates, and Consultants EEAs Talent Partner Key Responsibilities Contribute actively to the start‑up phase of each search by participating in client kick‑off meetings and assisting in the development of the position specification, search strategy, and target list of companies. Gather relevant information regarding appropriate industries and target companies. Identify potential prospects and sources, represent the client in the marketplace, and discuss the opportunity with relevant executives. Validate potential candidates through reference and source calls. Partner with the Consultant to develop and present a slate of qualified candidates to each client. Anticipate what needs to drive the search to closure and supply additional information such as industry/segment trends, market findings, and compensation data. Contribute to the preparation of position specifications, candidate presentations, and reference reports, adhering to the Firm’s assessment methodology. Communicate effectively with the Consultant and Executive Assistant and remain fully abreast of search developments, providing accurate updates to the client. Prepare organized information for client progress reports/meetings, teaming with the Consultant and the Executive Assistant. Provide an informed perspective on prospects/candidates and how they match key selection criteria. Stay aware of industry activities and management changes, keeping team members apprised of relevant developments. Add to the firm’s candidate pool expertise by continually identifying and introducing new talent. Ensure that assignment, company, and candidate information remains up to date using the proprietary database. Contribute to responses to inquiries for new business and business development initiatives. Be proactive in contributing to local, practice, or firm‑wide initiatives and coordinate practice‑related information sharing with colleagues. Ideal Experience 3+ years of progressive business experience in executive search, recruiting, talent acquisition, strategy consulting, or a relevant professional services environment, with significant client‑service time. Advancement of skills and knowledge evidenced through promotion or tenure. Superior project‑management skills demonstrated in a high‑performance environment with multiple projects and competing demands. Excellent written and verbal communication skills through clear, structured, and concise presentation. Undergraduate degree required; postgraduate degree a plus. Leadership Capabilities Project Management: Plan, manage, and drive own efforts to identify and develop high‑quality candidate slates while handling multiple projects and competing deadlines. Candidate Development: Build strong contact lists; gather relevant data from internal and external sources; articulate fit succinctly; use Quest efficiently. Credibility and Influence: Communicate effectively, build relationships, and adopt a professional, confident presence appropriate to executive audiences. Market and Candidate Knowledge: Acquire and incorporate knowledge to enhance client work; identify executive movements, update Quest, and share insights. Developing Self and Others: Seek and provide feedback, modify performance, and embrace continuous learning and growth. Compensation & Benefits The base compensation range for this position is $100,000‑$130,000 per year, dependent on skills, experience, and qualifications.
