TEMPORARY Colorado River Invasive Species Outreach & Education Technician

Position Summary This is a temporary position (9 months or less) paid $18.00 per hour. Employment begins 05/02/2026 and ends 10/31/2026. The role is based on the Colorado River at designated boat launches and reports to the James M. Robb Corn Lake State Park for assignment. Responsibilities Support the State Invasive Species Program through public outreach to non‑motorized water recreation groups on the Colorado River. Educate outfitters, anglers, hunters, and non‑motorized watercraft users about aquatic invasive species and proper decontamination practices. Provide surveys, attend user group events and expositions, and educate recreational outfitters. When outreach is not required, support Program Manager and Invasive Species Specialists by performing a variety of tasks including: Watercraft inspection and decontamination. Quality control assessment. Inventory management. Reviewing and editing technical reports. Distributing supplies to field locations. Data entry. Participate in boat inspection and outreach training as provided. Lead Specific Duties Serve as the lead communicator between the ANS Specialist and crew members. Ensure all crew members are respectful and manage conflict when needed. Ensure the crew has all necessary working equipment for the week's operations, maintain equipment in good working order, and report any problems or issues directly to the ANS Specialist. Host regular check‑ins with staff to address ongoing needs. Early morning, evening, and weekend work required. Minimum Qualifications Excellent driving record and ability to travel extensively with overnight stays. Ability to drive long distances and remain alert. Ability to work weekends, holidays, early morning and late evenings. Willingness to be flexible with daily/weekly scheduling as field work may be dictated by weather. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to approach and engage the public. Reliable and timely. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. Ability to self‑motivate and work independently. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment. Ability to trailer cleaning units on highways and steep mountain roads. Excellent customer service skills and/or experience working with the public. Experience with Microsoft and Google applications. Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or higher education.
