POSITION SUMMARY: The Production Supervisor (PDU Cables) is responsible for leading day-to-day shift production operations, employee performance, safety, quality, training, scheduling coordination, and continuous improvement for PDU cable manufacturing at the assigned Minnesota or Iowa location. This role provides direct leadership for one production shift and partners closely with cross-functional teams across the organization, including but not limited to Manufacturing, Engineering, Scheduling, Quality, Human Resources, and other support teams, to ensure customer orders are built safely, accurately, efficiently, and on time. The company intends to assign one Production Supervisor to each shift to provide consistent leadership coverage throughout production hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Supervise manufacturing employees within the assigned PDU Cables shift and location, generally overseeing approximately 15-30 employees depending on staffing levels, product mix, and business needs.
- Provide visible, consistent shift leadership by setting daily expectations, assigning work, monitoring productivity, addressing barriers, and ensuring smooth handoffs between shifts.
- Oversee production of PDU cable assemblies, including line readiness, work order prioritization, material availability, tooling, labeling, testing requirements, quality checkpoints, packaging, and shipment readiness.
- Monitor production schedules, labor capacity, customer priority orders, and material constraints; partner with Scheduling, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Manufacturing leadership to resolve issues quickly.
- Maintain, monitor, and improve production processes, safety requirements, equipment, fixtures, tools, and work instructions within the assigned PDU Cables area.
- Ensure employees follow documented build instructions, customer specifications, electrical safety requirements, quality standards, and proper handling practices for cable assemblies and related components.
- Create, implement, and maintain effective on-the-job training for employees, including safe tool use, assembly methods, inspection expectations, ERP transactions, quality procedures, and cross-training needs.
- Work with Human Resources and Manufacturing leadership to support staffing needs, onboarding, attendance management, employee relations, performance coaching, corrective action, and retention efforts.
- Monitor labor costs, attendance, overtime, timecards, labor allocation, and staffing coverage to support business needs while maintaining accountability and consistency.
- Use company systems to conduct employee reviews, process time-off requests, manage labor reporting, review production activity, and run reports as needed.
- Ensure product quality standards are met for internal and external customers; identify defects, trends, rework drivers, and process gaps, and assist with corrective action.
- Partner with the Manufacturing Manager to meet key performance indicators, including safety, quality, delivery, productivity, efficiency, labor utilization, rework, and schedule attainment.
- Conduct regular 5S activities and continuous improvement projects within the assigned PDU Cables production area to support organization, efficiency, safety, and standard work.
- Act as a liaison among Production, Quality, Warehouse, Scheduling, Customer Service, Sales, and other departments to communicate order status, production concerns, material shortages, and process updates.
- Supervise planning and coordination of production line setups, changeovers, job staging, equipment readiness, and shift start-up activities within assigned areas.
- Track actual performance against planned performance, analyze variances, identify root causes, and support practical solutions that protect safety, quality, delivery, and customer commitments.
- Partner with Maintenance, Engineering, and Manufacturing leadership to improve production methods, tooling, fixtures, equipment, ergonomics, standards, and documentation.
- Lead shift meetings, production huddles, and employee communications; share priorities, safety topics, quality alerts, staffing plans, and key production updates.
- Maintain accurate production reports, shortage logs, shift notes, escalation updates, and other documentation needed to support continuity across Minnesota and Iowa operations.
- Promote a respectful, accountable, safety-focused culture where employees understand expectations, receive timely feedback, and are encouraged to identify improvement opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, evaluate, train, coach, and motivate production employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of production flow, work order execution, shift handoffs, labor planning, quality expectations, and continuous improvement practices.
- Ability to learn and apply PDU cable assembly processes, related components, tools, testing expectations, customer requirements, and safety standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly across shifts, locations, departments, and levels of leadership.
- Strong computer, email, ERP, reporting, and Microsoft Office skills.
- Must be organized, self-motivated, reliable, and able to prioritize multiple production needs while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proactive and positive leadership style with the ability to build trust, reinforce accountability, and support a respectful team environment.
- Ability to identify issues, analyze risk, problem-solve production line concerns, escalate appropriately, and support timely corrective action.
- Ability to lead consistently while adapting to operational differences between the Minnesota and Iowa production locations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position directly supervises production employees assigned to the PDU Cables Division during the designated shift and at the designated location. Responsibilities include assigning work, monitoring performance, supporting training and cross-training, approving or reviewing timekeeping activity, addressing attendance and conduct concerns, providing coaching and feedback, participating in performance reviews, supporting corrective action when appropriate, and escalating employee relations matters to Human Resources and Manufacturing leadership. The position is expected to model company values, reinforce safety and quality expectations, and help ensure consistent leadership coverage across shifts in both Minnesota and Iowa.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
These requirements describe the general physical demands of the role and are not intended to exclude individuals who can perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- This position may work in both office and production/warehouse settings. The supervisor is expected to spend significant time on the manufacturing floor overseeing operations, supporting employees, and monitoring safety, quality, and productivity. The work environment includes exposure to varying temperatures, industrial equipment, forklift traffic, and moderate to high noise levels.
- The position requires frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs, and occasional lifting, along with periodic computer and administrative work. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout production and warehouse areas for extended periods of time during the shift.
- Requires the ability to use a computer, telephone, handheld devices, basic office equipment, production systems, and reporting tools.
- Must be able to visually inspect production areas, review documentation, observe work practices, and communicate with employees in an active manufacturing environment.
- Lift, push, pull, or carry requirements may be up to 50 lbs . on an inconsistent basis.
- Must be able to wear required PPE and follow all safety expectations for the assigned Minnesota or Iowa production location.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 5+ years of manufacturing, production, or operations experience, with prior supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred.
- Experience leading teams in a fast-paced production environment with accountability for safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and employee performance.
- Experience with cable assembly, electrical assembly, PDU production, warehouse operations, or related manufacturing preferred.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing practices such as 5S, standard work, root cause problem solving, and continuous improvement.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and comfortable learning ERP, timekeeping, and production reporting systems.
- Preferred: Certificate, associate degree, or related coursework in manufacturing, supervision, operations management, electrical assembly, or a related field.

- Responsibilities may occasionally require work in outdoor areas associated with shipping, receiving, or facility operations.
